    1. [CHASE-L] Reuben/Obadiah Chase
    2. Hi all, Have been out of town for several days and it appears there has been quite a discussion on the various branches of the Chase families. Tuba4. I don't have the full name of Reuben Chase's wife; only her first name, Elizabeth. Lisa is the authority on this branch of the family. But I would be interested to learn which child of Obadiah Chase you're descended through. For anyone who is interested my line is: WILLIAM, WILLIAM, JOHN, ISAAC, ISAAC, OBADIAH, JOHN, OLIVER, WRIGHT AND ELLA. Joan Gerrits

He died either in Steuben,Co, Yates Co., or Ontario Co.,NY 1813. His widow was remarried even before his bones chilled in the ground. By 1820 James Chase is dead or headed for the hills somewhere. His wife shows up on the 1820 census as head of household. By the 1830's she moved to Sandusky Co.,OH to live with her eldest son. Junelle L. I will do it when time permits. If you are using Netscape you can,of course use their built in Search facility for the WWW page you are looking at. Click on Edit then Find... Maybe others do not know this? A few days ago I sent a "search this site" script to Surname web to look at. I need there approval and setup. 2. k.hume
    3. The name AQUILA was derived from 2 early Christians but as sources seem to be in conflict it is posible they were one and the same. The literal meaning was "Eagle" 1) Aquila of Sinop in Pontus,(Sinop,Turkey) was known for his accurate translation of the Old testament Bible into Greek(c140 AD). Legend has it he was a kinsman of Emperor Hadrian best known for his wall,(still preserved today,) seperating Engalnd and Scotland. I have more on this Aquila 2)Thia Aquila is reported as a Jew from Rome who lived in Corinth in the 1st Century AD. He is refered to in the Bible ("Acts 18 verses 1 to 3") Quote:- " 1 After these things Paul departed from Athens and came to Corinth ; 2 And found a certain Jew named Aquila, born in Pontus, lately come from Italy with his wife Priscilla;(because that Claudius had commanded all Jews to depart from Rome;) and came unto them. 3 And because he was of the same craft, he abode with them and wrought; for by their occupation they were tentmakers" UNQUOTE See also - I Corinthians 16 ver 3 & 4 also 19 and --II Timothy 4 ver 19 In wich Paul refers to Aquila & Prisc of saving his skin. Anybody out ther make tents? (:>) Keith I HAD FORGOTTES! IT IS FATHER'S DAY AND I CAN HEAR A HORDE OF SONS DAUGHTER AND GRANDSONS ARRIVING! More on the name Aquila: >From the Chase Chronicle, Vol 1, No 1, January, 1910, "Most of us speak of Aquila as if the word were spelled with two l's, and the emphasis put on the second syllable as we speak of a quill pen. Please accent the first syllable as if it were spelled Ac and only one l." >From the Century Encylopedia of Names, 7/1/1911 edition, Editor Benjamin E. Smith: "Aquila. An early Christian who, with his wife Priscilla, was employed at Ephesus in instructing Apollos, who, though 'instructed in the way of the Lord,' needed to have it 'more accurately set forth.' 2. hi, all in response to the many comments re the Chases coming from Wales (a story I heard at mmy mother's knee), but tended to discredit when I first began to traval to the UK and to Wales about 20 years ago, I have an offer to make. I currently have friends visiting here from England. They will be in Conwy, Wales twice later this summer, and have offered to help us out with a bit of research. I would like to think we might have som connection with Conwy. It is a beautiful seacoast town, with a fabulous suspension bridge that dominates the harbor. If you will give me all the information you have, perhaps we can get some help from the locals. Joyce Chase Jarvis
