Yes, you need to change your info. According to all of the research I've done this is indeed true. Undoubtedly someone will send you the details, but if not I'll dig out my book and help out here. It's too bad too as the Holders of Holderness were an interesting family to study. Ginger in Az.

The Story of the founding of Maugerville can be found in most Encyclopedea. Basically it was founded by Virginia planters who were already having problems in the south. Apparently they were among quite a significant section of people from America who went to NB(NS then) Before the Rev War. The Index of Land Grants for New Brunswick include Land Grants around Maugerville and I have a map which shows some CHASE plots in the area. Altogether there were some 43 Land Grants made to CHASE names. between 1784 and 1964. As you probably know there were 3 to a Reuben Chase, 2 on the 14 Jul 1784 in Gagetown and one on 5 Jun 1813 at Southampton. There is no record of Land being Granted before then to CHASE people but this would not mean that CHASE persons would not have been there. Many settlers lived on land before applying for Grants, some of which took some years to progress. In fact Volume A of the NB land register only starts in 1784. It may be that records before then would be with the Noa Scotia Archives(PANS) Can someone enlighten us,please? Dear Chasers, I read the new database, and was surprised to see that records of the children of William Chase Jr.are found in the Swansea Quaker meeting records. Up until now, I had read that records of his children didn't exist. Can the other descendants of William Jr. tell me if is proven which children belong to which wife? I had always had John Chase's mother as Elizabeth Holder. However, the database now says that John was the son of first wife, Sarah/Abigail Hale. Should I change this in my family tree program? Comments please? Regards, Lisa Zajkowski

(Margaret A. Kane) and Elizabeth (Hooper T. Farrow). William married second Sarah Kezar and had six children, Sarah (Andrew Johnson - six children), George M. (died as a Civil War prisoner), William Harrison (Carrie Loomis Judd), Ann (Jonathan Long), Samuel (Myra Murry), and Ruth (John B. Murray - at least one son Clyde, lived in Oshkosh, Wisconsin). From "Descendants of Samuel Chase of New Brunswick," by Guy B. Chase, St. Paul, MN, printed by Ledger Publications, Inc., Balsam Lake, WI, 87 pp., publishing date not stated, but appears to be 1977 from the LOC #77-389. The one I photocopied states: "Copy No. 241 of 300." The author, Guy B. Chase, is a descendant of William and Sarah's (McPherson) son James. The book contains numerous photographs, including one of William, son of Samuel and Elizabeth. Obviously, an original can be found in the Library of Congress, and #241 can be found in the Brigham Young University Library, Provo, UT. [Jane, if you'll email me your address, I'll send you a photocopy.] I have found the family of James and Lucy (Buckstaff) Chase in the 1851 Census, St. Patrick, Charlotte Co., New Brunswick, p. 47. They were newly married, but living with them was Sarah (Kezar) Chase and her five children. The youngest, Samuel, was born in June, 1850. Ruth had not yet been born. The history of Samuel Chase referred to above states that William Chase went to California in 1851, returning in 1855. Therefore Ruth could have been born in either 1852, or 1855-56. A check of the 1860 U.S. Census for Winnebago Co., Wisconsin, should show the family of William and Sarah (Kezar) Chase, along with Ruth and her birth year. I descend through Alexis Chase, the third child of Samuel and Elizabeth (Moore) Chase. Alexis and his family were already living in Grant Co.,Wisconsin by 1850, so it is highly probable that William stayed at least some time with them on his trip to and from California. Since William was born 9 June 1801, he was about 50 when he made the trip. It sure would be interesting to learn more about his trip as a "49-er" to CA. Alexis' daughter Mary married John Hitchings (of the New Brunswick Hitchings clan, although I have never figured out exactly how). Their son William Sydney Hitchings (of Sutherland, O'Brien Co., Iowa) was my ggfather. Robert Fillerup
Hi Everyone.... If anyone sent me a lookup request and has not received a response yet, you will need to resend as I had a major AOL malfunction and lost all my mail. It would also be very helpful if you would put "Lookup request" in the subject line from now on, so I can save these requests in case I don't get to them right away. Thanks, Sue Derrick

The name Aquila is not totally unique to the Chase family. Around the same time that Aquila Chase emigrated from parts unknown in England, Aquila Purchase emigrated from Charlton Mackrell, Somerset. An uncanny similarity of surnames, eh? Equally uncanny was their choice of wives: Aquila Chase was married to Anne (Wheeler) -- Aquila Purchase was married to Ann (Squire). In my early days of research, and being frustrated by not discovering Aquila Chases's parents, I began to wonder if our Aquila had, in fact, once been a Purchase & simply dropped the first syllable of his surname. Sanity prevailed, however, and I decided not to go there! Ann Squire, BTW, was a sister of Edith Squire, the wife of Braintree's Henry Adams. Ted (in California, which is just west of 'dusty' Arizona)
