    1. Re: [CHASE-L] World Family Tree
    2. In my view, the genealogy and family history of those who are deceased are, and should be, public knowledge. I think most people would like to be remembered after they die and would not object to information being put into a public database. Those who are still living might feel invasion of privacy and should be asked if it is ok if their information (such as age) is put onto the internet. So, yes, I would say you can put any info on, as long as the living people are asked or deleted. Glenn

    3. All, While updating the CHASE database I had a message appear on the screen informing me that now I had 9,700 persons in the database did I wish to post to the World Family Tree. As most of you will know Broderbund can use our data on their CDs and claim copyright. This of course excludes our particular CHASE data. I would like your views regarding this. I know many of you have used Broderbund discs and found some useful info. While on this subject does anyone object to copying the Chase Database to Gendex. I am certainly in favour of this as it costs nothing and gives us greater presence on the WWW. 3. It's been a while and since we have some new members I am going to send this request again. I am seeking the parents of Frederick Chase listed below. The parents, Mathias & Rachel, may be his parents or his uncle and aunt, but we can find no proof of them other than from a couple of census and military national archives. My cousin thinks that a Mathias listed in one of the census below may be his father, or an uncle. These are my cousins notes: Fred enlisted for three years in the army on Nov. 11, 1862 in Battle Creek MI. He was a 24 year old 5.6" tall blue-eyed sandy-red haired and fair complected farmer. He joined Company B of the 26th Infantry, Michigan Volunteers and later Company A of the 8th Michigan Cavalry. He mustered in Nov. 12, 1862 in Jackson, MI. He spent most of the Civil War in the Army of the Potomac. He guarded the White House Landing (the boat dock on the Virginia side) marched up and down the penninsula in the Battles of the Wilderness, and spent a lot of time in the hospital. He came down with the measles (which ruined his eyes), a foot injury, and chronic dysentery. He was discharged in Sept. of 1865 in Nashville, TN and never went home. 1. [CHASE-L] Mariah Chase
    2. Hello, I am new to the list, so this is my first posting. I am looking for information on Mariah Chase. She was born on July 11, 1807 and died on September 24, 1898 in Brownton, Minnesota. She was married to William Bird Nobles on Jan 14, 1823 who was born in 1802 died in 1837 and is buried at Bachelors Grove, IL. I am not sure where she was born, but after the death of her husband, the family moved to Minnesota. Mariah and William had the following children: Daniel 1825 (Fannie Barrett); Augustas 1826 (Mary N. Patrick); Jeremiah 1828 (Harriet Hulet); Jane 1829 (Benjamin Cool); Alexander 1832 (Catherine Minerva Cool); William Bird 1836. Hope this connects with someone, Joan

    3. Hi Chaser Just wanted to pass along some information I have. There is a gentlement in Northern ME that is putting out a Chase Newsletter for several years now. He does one letter a year and it is $5.00 for it. If anyone is intrested in it the address is: Raymond W. He deals with Aquila's Family as that is who his wife is decended from. Carolyn

    1. [CHASE-L] Surname Density
    2. C D White
    3. I found an interesting surname site. It is: http://www.hamrick.com/names/ It shows maps of the changing density of 50,000 surnames in each state at different times from 1850 to 1990. For example, you can select "Chase" and opt for all years and watch the Chase's spread across America. Likewise with Chace. There are a lot of other surname facts, statistics and alleged origins at the site. It has one unavoidable shortcoming. For roughly every male who carried a given surname, there is a female that adopted a new one. So, as we see the Chase's move across America, we have to guess the feminine lines moved in similar directions under other names. Regardless, this is a fascinating site. 2. SECOND POSTING Because so many of the old cemeteries are in such bad shape I would like to compile some kind of a record of Chase cemetery records so that future researchers would have this as a guide. This is basically what I had in mind: 1. List all Chase cemetery records by state. 2. Include wife, children. 3. Index. 4. Place completed document on Chase website and/or in libraries. Would any of you be willing to send me records you have copied? I'll be more than happy to do the typing. If you think this would be a worthwhile project, let me know. If you think it's a dumb idea, let me know that too. Joan Gerrits [A BIG THANK YOU TO THOSE WHO HAVE ALREADY RESPONDED AND OFFERED TO SHARE THEIR INFORMATION FOR THIS PROJECT]

    3. Hi,everyone, I am now back into the "fray". I have just about caught up with reading all my mail but have not yet replied to everyone. On the subject of CHASE burial sites,Sue wright has very kindly sent me some early issues of the Chase Chronicles in which there are listed CHASE family burial sites in West Newbury and also some of associated families,(Follansbee is one such). I will be scanning the pages and sending to Joan. These Chase Chronicles are some of the earliest in 1810. The editor asks that if anyother Readers know of further burial sites would they please contact him. Someone on the list told me that they believe there is a large collection of the Chase Chronicles at Albany Library. I am afraid I cannot recall who. If there is anyone with access to these records it would appear that a lot of info would be available, not only re burials but also living and past CHASEs. I found the copies sent to me fascinating and if anyone knows where there is a possible source for getting others please contact me. 3. Hi mamakitty, I have been watching with interest your mail concerning William Chase....and I note a certain uncertainty as to which generation of of William was married to and the son of who. I am a descendant of St Lucia William Chase born in England in 1790, and in searching have found very good lines of the other William Chase lines that exist. For instance Williams Chase b 4 Jan 1607 mar. Mary Townley b 5 Mar 1603 had a son William Chase Jnr b 15 Jun 1621 mar. Elizabeth Holder b 1624 had a son John Chase b 16 April 1649 mar. Elizabeth Baker b 1648 had a son William Chase b 8 July 1688 mar. his cousin Dorcas Baker b 15 Nov 1696 had a son William Chase b 16 Oct 1774 mar. his cousin Mary Chase b 15 Nov 1696 and her older sister Mercy Chase b 11 Feb 1733, now this William had no issue by Mary but had 9 children by Mercy, they were Job Chase b 1753, Sylvanus Chase b 1755, John Chase b 1757, Elizabeth Chase b 16 Dec 1759, William Chase b 1761, who appears to have died as a baby, William Chase Jnr b 1764, Rebecca Chase b 1767, Deborah Chase b 1769, and Archelies Chase b 3 Mar 1771. Now if that ain't enough William Chase's to think about, then tell me more. I live in New Zealand and our generation of Chases stem from James Alvin and John Frances Chase who were Ship owners working with their uncle Job Chase b 1736, shipping magnate 1800 to 1840. Our generations here in New Zealand have a very good understanding of geneology as most of us are Latter Day Saints and you and other Chase descendants can access the same information by visiting and using the website www.familysearch.org....I'll copy this to CHASE-L@rootsweb as well, I too am a subscriber and I'll be interested to see results forthcoming. bye......Dave Davies....another Chase on line...

    2. Thank you so much for your responses regarding compiling Chase cemetery records. So far most everyone seems to feel it will be a worthwhile project. Even if you only have a few names that will help. Every name counts!!!! Also, I don't think we want to include complete cemeteries unless it's classified as a "Chase Family Cemetery". If you find a Chase burial while you're researching some other name, jot it down. Any Chase, any time -- US, Canada, UK, Australia, wherever. I want to repost my earlier e-mail this weekend. It just popped into my mind that this is vacation season and some subscribers may not have seen the original message. To those who have offered to send info you can either e- mail them or send by mail. Whatever is easier for you. Thanks again to you all. I'm looking forward to getting started! Joan

    2. Joan - I think it is a great idea but a monumental undertaking. I will contribute when and if I ever have anything. There are other websites as you probably know that list everyone in a cemetery but having just the Chases would certainly narrow the search. Also, to save searching for gravestones, a researcher should note after the death date that if the person was cremated, whether or not the ashes were place in an urn in a crypt at a cemetery or scattered across the Pacific as was my Dad. I have not been doing this. Just thought of it. Priscilla Chase Marchbanks
