I'm looking for anything about Fanny Chase, from Lynn, MA, according to her daughter's death certificate. She was married to Frank Wooster , born 10/9/1875, died June 1965. They resided in the Bristol, CT area. I have a record of his death claiming his last spouse was Fanny, but I find no record of her death. Their daughter Ethel died 2/28/1940, age 39. That would put Fanny's birth date somewhere around 1880. Thanks in advance. Duane Barton Corporate Applications Manager Fuji Medical Systems USA, Inc. All I see so much about CHASE ancestors on this list, but never anything about CHACE. My grandmother was WINNIFRED BERTHA CHACE born January 27, 1887 She was born in Boston but lived in Rhode Island. Her parents were GEORGE A CHACE and LUCINDA ? George Chace was born in Valley Falls RI, now called Central Falls, I believe. Does anyone know anything about them, or any other CHACE's living in Rhode Island? Sandra Davidson
Becky, I have Benjamin CHASE b 28 Apr 1639 of Yarmouth, Barstable, Massechusetts died 27 Feb 1686 in Yarmouth. Married Phillipia or Phillippe SHERMAN in 1673, she was born 1 Oct 1652 in Portsmouth, Newport, Rhode Island. I also have another Benjamin that is a nephew to this Benjamin; he was born 1654 in Yarmouth to William CHASE & Elizabeth HOLDER, died July 1731 in Portsmouth, married 21 Sep 1696 to Amie (Amey) (Annie) BORDEN. A third Benjamin that I have in my database is a son of Benjamin & Phillipa; he also has a July 1731 death date in Portsmouth and was married twice, first to Mercy SIMMONS in 1703 then to Mary ANGELL This data is from Ancestral File. ALL, I have now compiled a page giving details of Public Archives,in the UK, for those seeking CHASE ancestry. I would like to get as many USA/Canadian Public,(or those available to the public), as possible. Also if there are those among you from other countries then I would like details of any Archives there as well. While I appreciate that Cyndi's List would cover a lot of this I nevertheless would like to get just the Archives accessible from our Chase site. Would any of you that can please let me have details of any you have visited together witha few lines as to what may be found there. As there are now CHASE descendants living in every state in the USA,(and I suspect the same applies to Canada's provinces), details of there archives would be appreciated. Keith Hume
Some names that may be of interest to someone on your list that were found in the book I have on Waterbury and The Naugatuck Valley, CT... Isidore Chase - also spelled Isadore Chase on some pages - one of the first officers of the Waterbury Merchant's Association, formed May 20, 1897 who is listed as a charter member for "millinery" Frederick S. Chase - lived on Grove St, Waterbury, CT ; also on the Board of Directors for the Boys Club, one of the directors of the Waterbury Business Men's Association in 1913. Irving Hall Chase - Senator to State Legislature 1893 - 1917 from Waterbury, CT - also listed as a director of the Smith & Griggs Manufacturing Co in 1917. His wife's brother was Captain Frank W. Kellogg. I guess that makes her maiden name Kellogg if that helps anyone find a connection. H.S. Chase - President of Waterbury National Bank in 1916 & many other mentions in the book; also one of the directors of the Smith & Griggs Manufacturing Company in 1917. (Henry S. Chase, son of Augustus S. Chase) Irving S. Chase - Director of Waterbury National Bank in 1916 and many other mentions in the book Augustus S. Chase - became President of the first newspaper, the Waterbury American in or around 1893. H.S. Chase was also a stockholder and also treasurer and manager in 1893.; director of Waterbury Savings Bank in 1892. Also owned the A.S. Chase Co. , also listed as President of The Smith & Griggs Manufacturing Company in 1894. Mentions A.S. Chase died in Paris on June 7, 1896 and was succeeded in the office by his son, Henry S. Chase. Helen E. Chase - 1911 - "In this year Miss Helen E. Chase gave the old Waterbury hospital buildings and grounds as an addition to Chase Park, in memory of her mother, Martha Starkweather Chase." I think this Park was established in 1905 by Mrs. A.(Augustus) S. Chase as a memorial to her husband and to be used as a park... Hope this helps someone...if there is a connection for any of you, please email me and I'll add the other information I find on these names. They are mentioned many times in connection with several industries and endeavors. Regards, Robin Mullaney-Connecticut robinmullaney@snet.net
ALL, I have managed to get a simple Chase site Search facility operational. This is a VERY simple search tool and only lists the pages the phrases or word is on and does not highlight where the search string is on the page. However I believe it is a step in the right direction. One small problem, the script is leaving a message about not signing guest books etc. and as I got this Script free from Matt's Scripts Archives and am not an expert in Perl programming I have asked Matt's Scripts to help me out. We do not use a guest book as we have the Researcher page, Keith Hume Keith Hume, email khume@netcomuk.co.uk CHASE-L Website at:- http://www.surnameweb.org/centers/c/chase/index.html http://www.netcomuk.co.uk/~khume/home.html Kent,England Researching:- HULME,DAWSON,(In Lancs.) If any of you think you might have a Waterbury Connecticut connection, please let me know because I have a book called History of Waterbury and the Naugatuck Valley and it does list people with the name of Chase. I could do lookups if you'd like. I also do some transcribing of cemeteries in the surrounding area and some lookups in local cemeteries. Thanks robinmullaney@snet.net
9/9 note shows Henry Chase as son of Isaac and Hanna Berry Chase. I am interested in knowing where this reference was obtained. This may be a different generation from those which I have info. Per the Chase Family Chronicles, Isaac, son of John, married MARY Berry 5/23/1705. They had 9 children: Hezekiah, Obadiah, Thankful, Isaac, Lot, Hannah, Mary, Nathaniel and a second Mary. Isaac was remarried in 1727 to Charity O'Kelly and had six more children: David, Barnabas, Temperance, Charity, Mehitable and Desire. Isaac (2) b. 1714 was married to Thankful Maker. They had 14 children: Isaac b 1750 who married Mary Holmes, Lot, Berry, Thankful, John, Rueben, Ann Ruth, Reliance, Josiah, Joel, Solomon, Sarah, Elizabeth, and Obadiah (my ancestor). Isaac (2) remarried and fathered Thomas and Judah in Saratoga. I can't find Henry

Hello again, Thanks to Art, I finally noticed the address for the Chase Web Page and there I found, maybe, the answer to my question about the discrepancy between my gr-grandmother's (Cornelia Chase) records and those on Nantucket Island. Cornelia's records indicate that Benjamin Chase 1736-1826, was married to Mehitable Thurston but Nantucket records say he was married to Margaret Gardner. From there on back, the Nantucket records are different from Cornelia's. I was very happy to see that someone, other than my gr-grandmother had records indicating that Benjamn married Mehitable Thurston and that the rest of the records on the Chase web page match my gr-grandmother Cornelia's records and even add some details for me. But where did the records at the Chase site come from? I wrote to Keith and he replied that they are from various gedcom files and family trees submitted to him over time and without sources. He suggested I ask all you Chase researchers for help. So here is the central question: Who submitted the file with Benjamin Chase 1737-1826, m. Mehitable Thurston. He is the s.o. Stephen Chase and Ester Buffington and the father of Benjamin Chase who m. Lydia Macy. Does anybody have any documentation for Benjamin and Mehitable? Barbara Babcock barbabcock@home.com
Printed by: American Historical-Genealogical Society 2000 North Broad Street Philadelphia, PA. BATTLE HYMN OF THE CHASES (Sung to "Battle Hymn of the Republic) Our ancient sires in England raised their standards to the sky; For country and posterity their aims were ever high; They always did their duty; unafraid to do or die; The clan goes marching on! Chorus: Glory to our grand old family Virile, worthy, brave and loyal! "Forward" ever all ye Chases! The clan goes marching on. Aquilla, William, Luke and Tom were fathers of our clan; Aquilla Chase was virile, William was a sturdy man; Posterity of Chases facing danger, never ran; The clan goes marching on. Samuel was a signer of a famous document; In Congress and in courts of justice many years he spent; He was an ardent patriot and what he said he meant; The clan goes marching on. Ann Chase was a heroine with weapon in her hand; The enemy retreated when she gave her stern command; She saved the flag, the men, the treasure of her native land; The clan goes marching on. Irah was a preacher; Dudley servant of his state; Salmon is among the men we know as good and great; Though Wells was in danger, never did he hesitate; The clan goes marching on. Josiah and brave Joshua were fighters, we are told; Carlton was a preacher who brought sinners to the fold; Among the world's great families our family is pure gold; The clan goes marching on. The Clan of Chase is mighty - many thousand brave and strong; In seventy-six a hundred Chases fought to right a wrong; Many towns now bear our name. Sure, let us sing that song - The clan goes marching on. The sons of Chase have courage any task or foe to face; Our daughters all are lovely with their beauty, charm and grace; The leaven of our family is a blessing to the race; The clan goes marching on. References: Judge Samuel Chase 1707-1800 Samuel Chase of Maryland - Signer of the Declaration of Independence (At the time of writing - est 1920) The Chase family is among the 49 "best families" selected by the American Historical-Genealogical Society for whom the Society has published family histories during the past few years. The Chase Fanily has been prominent in the British Empire and in the United States, its members having played important roles in war and in peace. Family pride is a commendable trait and should be cultivated. All Chases have just cause to be proud of their family history and traditions. The name "Chase" was given to those people who resided in that part of the forest or park termed the 'chase' - an open piece of ground for the herding of deer and other game. This surname has been strongly ramified in the United States.
I have updated the CHASE database today. Amongst the new entries are extracts from a gedcom sent to me by Jackson Petersen which shows the link(s) between Brigham Young and Diana (Severance) Chase. Extracting information from Jackson's database was more than somewhat difficult especially as I was determined to avoid the dreaded duplications. Apart from the fact that he had 2 lines connecting him to Chase the Mormon connection showed multiple marriages including a CHASE lady who thought that if a man could have multiple wives she could have a similar dispensation with husbands and had 4,(Not all at the same time). For those interested in statistics The total number of persons in the Database exceeds 10,000. I am still "plodding away" on the Archives page and have completed the basic UK page(England,Scotland,Wales & Northern Ireland). With the wealth of Archive sites in the USA I am considering whether to just list the State Archives and point visitors to the GenWeb and others such as Cyndi's List or to pick out a few choice ones. Hi to all the list members, I just joined this last weekend after learning about the list. Looking at the data in the on-line database, I found that most of my later lineage was not included, so I have sent Keith a gedcom with many of the descendants of Timothy CHASE b 1760. I also showed links for a cousin marriage for Timothy's parents, so that should show now. Keep in mind that the information I submitted has NOT been verified or documented, it is from the Ancestral File database that I got the information. This information includes at least 2 branches of Timothy's descent that came to Utah with the Mormon Pioneers. Those who are descended from Timothy are qualified for membership in the International Black Sheep Society of Genealogists, the qualification is through his wife, Sarah SIMMONS, who is my connection to 3 Mayflower families. My CHASE connection is through my father's mother. Jackson Andersen Provo, Utah IBSSG
Chasers All: I and my wife are off to Britain for our first time. I hope to see Keith while we are there. This time, we are going as tourists. We don't plan to do any research, just to gape a lot. I may get a chance to look in on the list from somewhere along our wandering, but if someone posts about a list problem, please feel free to give them all the advice you can. I will be back to the list by the end of the month. Good afternoon, I apologize for any duplicate postings, but I wanted to thank all who have contributed photo's to the Colorado USGenWeb site. I have it catagorized per county. We all have ancestors whom arrived in the New England area and migrated west. You will find a thumbnail & actual size photo on each county which has a hyperlink to it, and in some cases you will see a full size (larger sized) photo. I would also like to extend an invitation for all to visit the site and if you have any ancestors from Colorado you would like to contribute, please let me know. In searching around the www for sites for the ARCHIVE and GENEALOGY sites for the relative pages on the CHASE site I came across the WWW site for the College of Arms. http://www.kwtelecom.com/heraldry/collarms/index.html On this site you can find out the history of Granting Arms as well as how the system works. It also corrects some of the more popular misconceptions. For instance the right to bear Arms is inherited via the male line not as many think awarded to an individual. You might find it interesting. While I am on the subject I do need help on collecting sites for the Genealogy links page and the Archives page. On the Archives page I am looking for WWW sites and/or "snail mail" addresses where family records may be found. Such sites as USA State Archives and the like. If you know of any please let me know. If you know that certain archives contain information on CHASE family,(i.e. those with CHASE blood in their veins), I would like to know. The Genealogy Links. I am looking for any sites you have found useful in your research. Not just "Cyndi's List" sites but some of those that may be there that are relative to where CHASE descendants and families lived. I know I have mentioned this before but I have now got the Basic page written and I am looking for help on locating WWW sites or information, Thanks, Keith Hume
