    1. [CHASE-L] Elizabeth Chase
    2. Leslie Quist
    3. Thank you for all your help with Elizabeth. I would guess that Elizabeth H is the one I want. The one who married Daniel Baker. Now, another question. Does anyone know the birthday of Joseph, Elizabeth's half brother? I have 2 birth years for him 1652 and 1654. Did he marry Sarah Sherman? I think this has already been answered, but I can't find the email that was sent about it. Leslie Quist

    3. I have a problem, that perhaps some one of you can clear up for me. I have 2 possible Elizabeth Chase names. The one I am looking for is the daughter of William Chase Jr and his wife Sarah Abigail Hale. Here are the 2 possiblities with all the information I have about them. I am trying to identify both so I can eliminate one. Elizabeth Chase b.1650 of Swansea, Bristol, RI m. John Round 1665/1668 Swansea, Bristol, RI Elizabeth H. Chase b 1654 of Yarmouth, Barnstable, MA m 27 May 1674 to Daniel Baker at Yarmouth, Barnstable, MA Which one of these ladies was the daughter of William Jr and his wife Sarah Abigail Hale? The list of William Jr's descendants lists the first as his daughter, but didn't he live in Yarmouth not Swansea? Is Swansea in RI and not in MA? I wasn't clear about that either. Some of my places are Swansea, Bristol, MA. Is this Correct or is it in RI, or is there one of each? That is, a Swansea in MA and RI. I would REALLY like the birthdates of all of William's children if they are available. Thank all of you for the help that has already been given me. Hope you can answer this one. Leslie Quist

    1. [CHASE-L] Misdirected email?
    2. Hello cousins, It appears that a couple of people may have sent an email to me, but thought they were sending it to someone else in the group or to the whole group. Please make sure you sent your email to the group when that is what you want. If you just hit reply it may go to an individual and not the group. I'd hate for anyone to think they weren't getting a reply when the person they intended the email for never saw it. I'm having enough of a challenge keeping up with my own mail, so if your email didn't show up in your email please resend it. Thank you, Melody

    1. [CHASE-L] Chases from VT>WI
    2. This flurry of activity has prompted me to try again. I am looking for the parents of a Hannah Chase. She was born in 1799 in one of the eastern states, probably Vermont. She married Stratton Martin ( date unknown ) of Vermont and they moved to Dane County, Wisconsin in 1844. She had a brother named Abraham and it is said that her father's name was Abraham also. She died in 1877 and is buried in Wheeler Prairie Cemetery near Stoughton, Wisconsin next to her husband. She is believed to be a descendant of William. Any clues would be greatly appreciated, Russ Hanson

    1. [CHASE-L] Early Chase Ancestry Uncertainty
    2. Terry G. Peden
    3. Hello Fellow Chase Researchers, I have a question that I am sure many of you have asked from time to time. There is so much data on the early Chase ancestry out there such as Books, research papers, genealogies on websites, e-mails on rootsweb, etc. that conflict with each other. I would like to know if any hard evidence has been found to back up which of them are correct? I have collected most original Chase books on William and Aquilla among others. I have all but 2 issues of the original Chase Chronicles, and have the original Chase Reunion books. Also, I have the issues in the New England Historical and Genealogical Register pertaining to Chase. Over the years I have collected numerous books, research papers, genealogies and e-mails and my own research on my Chase ancestry, but many of them have conflicting data and I was wondering if anyone had found any hard data on them such as documents that prove some of these dates and lines that conflict? I have 100% documented proof (Birth, Death, Marriage Certificates, Wills and Estates etc) back to my 6th Great Grandfather Rev. Enoch Chase b. December 03, 1762 Dighton, Bristol Co., Massachusetts. He was William of Yarmouth's 3rd Great Grandson according to the New England Historical and Genealogical Register on pages 326 & 327 Volume 87. It list's Enoch's wife and Children which my 5th Great Grandfather Dean Chase b. February 16, 1794 Harwich, Barnstable Co., Massachusetts is on there too. It is to my understanding that the New England States use these books as law for births, deaths, marriages etc. because I called Harwich, MA Courthouse and got a certified birth certificate for Dean Chase b. February 16, 1794 in which they told me they used the NE Registry as proof for the certification process. So in conclusion, I have always listed my early Chase Ancestry as it is stated in the NE Registry because of it being used as law in the New England States. It is my belief that since it is good enough for them, it was good enough for me and possably all Chase researchers could use it as the correct genealogy unless there is a proof document that has been found that conflict's with the Registry and let everyone know how to obtain a copy of the document. This is just my thoughts to cut the confusion and to get us all on the same track and to help the new researchers find their connections without them getting frustrated and giving up. We all know how it was when we first got started in our research and got so excited when we found Chase books listing the lineage back to the 1600's, but got to noticing different dates etc. for the early Chase's in the different books. I have found five different birth dates for William of Yarmouth to date, three of them from e-mails on rootsweb. The connection's of the emigrating Chase's to each other and their ancestry has been on the debate floor for years. It is very frustrating until you learn about real genealogy research and how much conflicting data is out there and how it came about and how to overcome it. It is my hope that someday we could all agree on a standard genealogy for Chase and work to prove whatever can be proved wrong in it with doccumented evidence for the next generation of researchers so they won't have to inherit the same problems in the research that has already been worked before them. They just might find the ancestry to the 14th & 15th century if they were assured the 16th & 17th century was as correct as possible and all Chase cousins agreed with it. I am very proud of my ancestry and consider myself lucky as a genealogist to have such a documented history and would love to pass on my work to future generation researchers without confusing them. Would like to know everyone's thoughts on this and which source data other Chase researcher's use for the early ancestry. Sincerely, Terry G. 2. I thank everyone for their helpful advice. It was suggested to me, that I state the location of the people I have listed. Franklin Chase was, according to family history, living for a time in Winebego county Illinois. The rest of the Chases listed all live in or around Jackson county, Iowa. Thank you again for your help and support. They are both greatly appreciated. Kristina Chase

I will attach them to your email and send them back. Better to request one or two at at time so your email software doesn't crash, these are color pictures and a lot of bites. I organized the pictures by the Chase name and the number from "Seven Generation of the descendants of Aquila and Thomas Chase". Those pictures that don't have a number I put death dates. Those of Chase daughters I put their name with their husbands and their father's number. I was careful matching these up, but I'm human and do make mistakes. If you find a mistake please let me know. 3. Ok, here goes! The father of John Chase who married Elizabeth Baker in 1674/1675 was William Chase Jr. b. 15 Jun 1621 Rogate Parish, Sussex, England d. 27 Feb 1685 Yarmouth, Barnstable, MA m. (1)abt 1640 to Sarah Abigail Hale (2) Elizabeth Holder abt 1653. There were several children: William, Jacob, John b. 16 Apr 1649, (which makes him the son of the first wife.), Elizabeth, Joseph, Abraham, Benjamin, Samuel, Elizabeth, Joseph. The dates I have for most of the children are speculative on my part, so I didn't include them. I have no way of telling which children went with which wife. William Jr's father was William Chase b. 20 Nov 1597 at Wivenhoe, Essex, England. d. 4 May 1659 At Yarmouth, Barnstable, MA m. Mary Townley before 1621. I don't have a definite date. Does anyone out there have a date for their marriage? Their children were William Chase (of course) Mary Chase b. 15 May 1637(married Peleg Slade), Benjamin Chase b. 28 Apr 1639 (m. Phillipa Sherman) I have seen someone that says William's father was Benjamin Chase and Helen Harvie and someone else that says that Benjamin's father was William and mother Mary Hammond. These I haven't received any sources for and am very interested to find out more about them. Leslie Quist frogg wrote: > Yes Leslie, I would be interested. 1. [CHASE-L] Research blues
    2. To anyone interested in giving me a hand, I started "researching" the Chase line out of curiosity and interest in where my father's family came from. I am at a point however, where finding information has been slow and frustrating and I am finding there is a lot I need to know to continue. 1. I have foolishly accepted the gedcoms of others, trusting their research. I do not know how to get the documentation I need, not what it is I really need. 2. Where do I start? I had gotten some oral history from my grandfather before he passed, and from my father recently, but some of it is contradictory and most of it is incomplete. I understand this is not geneology 101 here, but your help would be greatly appreciated. This is the information I have. 3. I can't remember who posted a question about Moses Chase earlier today (I've already deleted it from my pc), but I ran across this info on Moses while surfing on the net. Hope it helps (but keep in mind that the source appears to also erroneously provide that Aquila, Thomas and William were brothers and all sons of Aquilla Chase of Chesham). The information comes from "New England Families Genealogical and Memorial: Third Series, Volume IV," by William Richard Cutter (1915), (Reprinted Baltimore: Genealogical Publishing Co., Inc. 1996), at p. 1675: "...Moses, son of Aquila (2) Chase, was born December 24, 1663, died September 6, 1743. He settled in Sutton, New Hampshire, on the tract of land one hundred rods above Bridge street, on the north side of the main road, and this farm was at his death divided between his sons, Moses and Joseph. He married (first) November 10, 1684, Ann Follansbee, who died April 5, 1708, in childbed. and was buried at Newbury. He married second) December 13, 1713, Sarah Jacobs, of Ipswich. Children: Moses, born September 20, 1685, died young; Daniel, twin of Moses; Moses, January 20, 1687-88; Samuel, May 13, 1690; Elizabeth, September 25, 1693; Stephen, August 29, 1697; Hannah, September 13, 1699; Joseph, September 9, 1703 or 1705; Benoni..."
