Hi Listers, I am trying to sort out the connections between the Westmorland Chases and those in Nova Scotia. Here is what I have: Stephen Chase (b. 2 May 1709), a planter who settled in Kings County Nova Scotia, had a son Jethro Chase (b. 13 June 1746). Jethro had a son Benjamin (b 26 August 1780). Benjamin moved to Sackville. I believe Benjamin married Isabel <Unknown> and had a son Benjamin Jr. Benjamin Jr married Mary Estabrooks and had a son Layton. I am trying to determine who the other children of Benjamin Chase Sr. were. I am especially interested in Chipman Chase and William Chase, who I am told were also sons of Benjamin Chase Sr. Chipman married Zilpha Snowdon.William Chase married Mariam Estabrooks and moved to Nova Scotia. Supposedly, Chipman's daughter Amy married William's son William. This marriage ended in divorce and Amy returned to Sackville area. Wm and Amy's son Perry stayed with his father in Nova Scotia. 1891 Census 65 Chase William 9 48 Head Head Church of England Brooklyn Street 65 Chase Amy 10 40 Wife Wife Baptist Brooklyn Street 65 Chase Perry 11 6 Single Son Presbyterian Brooklyn Street 65 Chase Wylie* 12 4 Single Son Presbyterian Brooklyn Street *This is a transcription error and refers to son Wallace William Chase. 1901 Census 14 Chase Perry 19 15 8 Nov 1885 Single Son Baptist Brooklyn Street Lakeville 14 Chase William 18 57 25 Nov 1843 Single Head Baptist Brooklyn Street Lakeville Wm and Amy's daughter Cassie went to live aunt Martha who had married Joseph Bulmer. Hi all, Have found some interesting info that some may not know: There was a Quaker Census of NY 1828. Now for info I need, if someone would help. In that census, it shows my Benj6 or Ben. Jr.) at Williamson Farmington Monthly Meeting Wayne Co. NY w/ Lydia & 6 minors.(This info would be correct as to wife Lydia Macy and they would of had 6 minors at that time). I could never figure why Benj5 (or JR as referred to in the Quaker info you found before............), went to Farmington per records, cause he actually lived in Sodus, NY but..........at that time, Farmington was the place where they had the quarterly & yrly meetings.Apparently, at lst there was no meeting house at Sodus. Also Williamson being right next to Sodus, they may have more or less considered the 2 towns under 1 heading , ie, Sodus/Williamson. Farminginton is in Ontario Co, and Sodus and Williamson in Wayne Co. BUT, at that time, Farmington and Sodus were both in ONTARIO Co. Not sure abt. Williamson. (THIS INFo fr. talking to the Farmington,NY HISTORIAN today). I know that Lydia Macy (Benj6's) wife per the info that was found earlier under the Quaker records, stated: " Benj. Chase Jr s Benjamin & Hehitable Chatham 2nd w Lydia Macy dt. Simeon & Lucretia m. 5-2-1821, Ghent Ch: 5 (See Chatham) Cert of clear fr. Chatham Cert to Chatham 11-23-1821 for Lydia." I assume this means that she was cleared to go to Chatham. Correct???? Wouldn't these Chatham records show clearance for Benj Jr and Lydia to go to Farmington???? Wonder if anyone can find them???? Am hoping that someone can go into these records (both the Chatham and Farmington, Ontario Co.) and find out what further info you can find on Benj6), wife Lydia Chase, and their 6 minors. Minors I have are Elizabeth A. b. 20 Oct. 1822, Henry M. b. 24 Feb. 1824, John F. Bacon b. 18 Jan 1825, d. 2 May 1831 (d. abt 5 yrs old - in case he's missing), Gelina L. b. 26 July 1827, Durfee. b. 8 June 1829, Susan, b. 20 June 1831, d. 6 April 1847, Lucretia M. b. 6 Nov. 1836 Eva, b. 23 Aug. 1840 I am particularly interested in when and where they died,--- Benj 5 d. 20 Mar. 1826 , where????? Chatham or Sodus??? 1st w. Eliz Durfee, b.12 July 1735, d. abt 1776, dt. of Job and Elizabeth (CHASE) Durfee.........someone may have this info in their records on Eliz .... Durfee--- would like the mo. and day and definite yr. of her death and WHERE??? Benj 6 d. 1867, what date, and where???, might even be Roch as there was a meeting hs. in E. Henrietta ares, Benj 6 or Benj Jr., d. 1867, need mo. and day & where? ????? Sodus or Rochester, no records in Roch. that I've been able to find and w. Lydia Macy, I have sh e d. 7 Oct 1866, but where??? ALL THIS INFO IS IN NY State!!!!! I did come across Benj5's will on net, but just the listing, not the will itself. Under NYS Will Testators, under Columbia Co. Will, Chase, Benj, Chatham NY 11 E 152, in case anyone can find any info on this.........which I doubt. I WANT THIS WILL, NEEDLESS TO SAY! I wrote Columbia Co, Chatham historian, sure hope and am sure I did, put this in that request.....had to write a letter........so hope she w/get it for me. I found a Case (Chase?) Farm Cem and a Durfee Farm Cem in Sodus, but no listing on line. Will have to call the Town Office on this, I guess. Wonder if it is possible that the Case is Chase, cause I heard Benj 5 gave land to Sodus for the meeting house, which I do't know where it is or the cemeteries. MANY DURFEES in my Chase line, so Ben could even be buried in Durfee Farm Cem, or the ?Chase one. Maybe someone of the Durfee line above could also help me. Many Durfees in Palmyra. Many Macy's still in Ghent, per historians. I HAVEN'T joined Ancestry.com cause I put a TONNNNNN of stuff on their tree, and then I found out that they think THEY OWN yr. info, and I CERTAINLY DON'T want that, so not gonna join, at least till I get my info off and into a program.........!!!! (Some goes bk 16 generations). I AM VERY HAPPY TO SHARE with ALL and many have found their way to my email and have been more than happy to help them ..........alot tie into my line so I'm able to., BUT I don't want anyone to OWN my info..........who knows..........someday I might write a book.......lol.....! Think I've already written one!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Think that's all for now............!!!!!!! Thanks so much for any help. It's more ghtan greatly appreciated. By the way, for Jeffrey.........., the Chatham Raysville Cemetery Assoc., where Benj's brother and family Cornelius are buried, say that their records show that Eunice Barnard was m. to Elijah Cornell in the Meeting House at Chatham.......! I'm trying to help a 70+ year-old-friend find something about her natural father, Charles Brooks of Gladwyn Co or Genesee Co (Flint) Michigan. In so doing, I've searched for the street my friend says she lived on in 1930 -- Riverside Drive in Flint. Does anyone know of a map that shows the Enumeration Districts for this census? Actually, this type of map could be very helpful for lots of researchers . . . but do they exist? Thanks for any ideas! Jean Edwards in California
Hi All, Can't verify if this is actually true, but it is certainly interesting...... I imagine it could be checked into. Anyone ever hear of this? Romanty Chase b. 3/18/1837 d.9/22/1894 in Kittery Maine Who were his parents? In the 1860 census, Romanty was 23 and living next door to Joanna Chase (she was 58) in Kittery. Joanna was m. to Thomas Chase (Thomas, Rev. Josiah, Dea. Thomas, Thomas, Aquila) per "Seven Generations." Joanna petitioned for administration of Thomas's estate in 1832. There were 2 children: Thomas & Joshua. Romanty seems to have been born too late to be the child of Joanna & Thomas. However, the land he later owned appears to be the same land Joanna received from her husband's estate but I have not been able to find any transfer from Joanna to Romanty. Romanty and his wife, Catherine Redmond, had 3 children: Willis m. Margaret Doyle, Annie m. Homer Gunnison, and Charles M.S. Chase who was living in Lynn, Mass. in the 1920's. Is there anyone with any knowledge of this family? Finding Romanty's parents has been my brick wall for years and it's driving me crazy! Thanks. Mary Jo in Dover, NH
