Hi. This is what I have on my CHASE line. My G-grandfather was WINTON FRENCH BLANKENSHIP. He married ESTELLA CHASE of Jackson County WV on May 30, 1901. Estella was born March 16, 1876, daughter of William and Levina (Sayre) Chase. William's parents were John and Malinda (Kay) Chase. This is all that I really have at this point. I know that Estella remarried after Winton died in 1907. Her second husband was William Overton French of Rockcastle WV. Rumor has it that she married again after Mr French died. I haven't been able to confirm this, but she supposedly married Earl Smith of Columbus Ohio. This is where I grew up, as my Grandmother, moved to Columbus as a young woman of 18. I would love to find our where Estella is buried, but I have no clues as where to look. Seems that I haven't hit just a brick wall, but a huge mountain at this point. Any help, suggestions or advice will be greatly appreciated!! Arlene What is your Chase line? My line ended up in Meigs County, OH about 1817 (Abel, Sr and his family) from Maine. I believe one of the sons may have moved to WV, at least for a time. Line: Oscar (8), Abel, Jr (7), Abel, Sr (6); Ezekiel (5); Roger (4); Thomas (3); Thomas (2); Aquilla. Sue Ed
hmm, Keith you pose a good question. I suppose it depends on the definition & I am sure there are no hard & fast rules. However, I used to use as a motto "not a genealogist; just looking for family" It was/is the family I was looking for, not what I consider just names, dates, etc. Though I have had some training in genealogy and still hopefully follow the rules such as "proper documentation" etc. , there are other areas in which I divert which would make me a family history researcher. I do NOT stick to just my direct line (which I think the purist tend to follow) Initially this might have been because I was manically looking for my ggrandfather Ezra B. Chase & would look at about everything Chase. Well, I learned a lot! Eventually found my direct line. This family search was wonderful and enlighten. In my very own geographic area, central Vermont, it is wonderful to learn how other surnames connect & are related.Viz. Denison, Smith & Cotton to name a few. For those who have been on this list, you know that it is no secret that Bishop Philander Chase is rather a hero of mine. With his having fourteen siblings, most of who settled in this area there influence has gone far; especially in the development of the Episcopal churches here. One fun quote from a book "Forty Years A Country Preacher"., by Rev. George Gilbert (who happened to baptize me at an early age of 6 mo.) His mother was a Blodgett who" befriended an Episcopalian family named Chase and were the first in Randolph Center, Vermont.....a current joke in that region was that there were enough Chase thereabouts to blow the devil out of he... and enough (names a town) to blow him back him in again" Another book which was given to me a quite recent book on Salmon P. Chase give his family & political history. Not a particularly complimentary book, but DOES give another's view on a "Family member" In this book he claims that not only Salmon P. but his Uncle was a on "power trip". So, I like to learn about family history! Well the day is nigh & soon the sun will be shinning & I will need to be enjoying the "perfect" Vermont fall season. Harriet Chase

Hello Chase researchers, It is my understand that this list is meant to be for researching Chase genealogy. It is NOT for spreading religion, one's political beliefs, making racist remarks, perpetrating hoaxes, giving medical advice, being a channel for private emails and the like. And without being completely paranoid, I have seen all of the above lately. I just want to see this organizational list grow and thrive and help each other with genealogy. If we do not concentrate on the genealogy issues, we shall certainly go the way of the Chase Chronicles Organization that became self righteous, self centered, irrelevant, purely social and having little to do with genealogy other than pat each other on the back and pretend that the Chases were better than other families. And I apologize in advance if anyone is offended by my remarks. That is not my intent. Rex Chase

Hi everyone, I think the map idea is an excellent one and although I'm typically a 'lurker' on the CHASE-L list, this project is one that I am willing to help with. Is there anyone else who is willing to lend a hand to this worthwhile project that Keith suggested? I can compile names, addresses and email addresses to later be coded for the area maps. Does anyone have knowledge about creating a 'clickable' map, using HTML? I have 'some' experience in HTML coding, but I've never made a clickable image before. I think Keith's idea is great! All of my Chase ancestors are from the WV area and the only Chase "cousins" I have seen on the list since I signed up are from other parts of the country/world. This map would be a great way of looking in geographical areas for my cousins. Arlene
It had the smell of hoax on it. Probably we should stick to genealogy here. Ellie Pelcyger

A long communication from Barb about the dangers of Aspartame was just sent to me through the Chase list. I'd like to caution people not to spread it around without finding out who the authority, if any, was who wrote it. Without a signature, it becomes gossip, which, when spread by e-mail, can cause harm to those who should be working with doctors and reputable researchers. I'm sure it was meant well, but it is not scientific data. Sincerely, Ellie Pelcyger
Keith, I would be interested in signing up for your program. It sounds like fun. I have been looking for over 30 years for a great great grandfather and am unable to get any information about him. So sign me up. Also a late HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! Virginia Chase [email protected]

I did a google search and the results are at: http://www.google.com/search?sourceid=navclient&q=Aspartame Many sites for and against. As genealogist we do a lot of research. Whenever something is e-mailed to me I research it to see if this is a hoax or true. We have found a lot of bad information on the net as we found good. So please check this out and come to your own conclusion and if you would to try for yourself if this statement is true there would be no harm to stop drinking diet soda. I think Keith's idea of a map showing where our Chase relatives are sounds like a great idea. Like he said who knows, we may have relatives in the next town or down the street that we didn't know existed. Marian in Missouri

Subject: Diet Sodas PLEASE read this!!!! It's long but worth it: In October of 2001, my sister started getting very sick, she had stomach spasms, she was having a hard time getting around, to walk was a major chore. It took everything she had just to get out of bed, she was in so much pain. By March 2002, she had undergone biopsies, and was on 24 various prescription medications. The doctors could not figure out what was wrong with her. She was in so much pain, and so sick, she knew she was dying. She put her house, bank accounts, life insurance etc. in her oldest daughters name, and made sure her younger children were to be with her oldest daughter. She wanted her last hooray, so she planned a trip to FL (basically in a wheelchair) for March 22nd. On March 19th I called her to ask her how one of her tests went, and she said! They didn't find anything on the test, but they believe she had MS. I thought, oh, my....then I recalled an article a friend of mine e-mailed to me...and I asked her....Do you drink Diet pop? She told me yes, as a matter of fact she was getting ready to crack one open that moment....I told her not to open it, and stop drinking the diet pop....and e-mailed her the following article. She called me within 32 hours after our phone conversation and told me she stopped drinking the diet pop, and she can walk...she went up the stairs, and the muscle spasms went away. She said she didn't feel 100% but sure felt a lot better. She told me she was going to her doctors with this article and would call me back when she got home. She called me, and her doctor was amazed, he is going to call all of his MS patients to find out if they consumed artificial sweetener.... In a nutshell, she was being poisoned by the aspartame in the diet soda, dying a slow death. When she got to FL March 22nd, all she had to take was one pill, and that was a pill for poisoning....she is well on her way to recovery.....and she is walking!!!!! No wheelchair!!!! This article saved her life!!!! The life saving article: If it says "SUGAR FREE," on the label, DO NOT EVEN THINK ABOUT IT!!! I have spent several days lecturing at the WORLD ENVIRONMENTAL CONFERENCE on "ASPARTAME" marketed as 'NutraSweet', 'Equal', and 'Spoonful'. In the keynote address by the EPA, it was announced that in the United States in 2001 there is an epidemic of multiple sclerosis and systemic lupus, that it was hard to understand what toxin was causing this to be rampant. I stood up and said that I was there to lecture on exactly that subject. I will explain why Aspartame is so dangerous: When the temperature of this sweetener exceeds 86 degrees F, the wood alcohol in ASPARTAME converts to Eformaldehyde and then to formic acid, which in turn causes metabolic acidosis. (Formic acid is the poison found in the sting of fire ants.) The methanol toxicity mimics among other conditions multiple sclerosis. People were being diagnosed with having multiple sclerosis in error. The multiple sclerosis is not a death sentence, where methanol toxicity is! Systemic lupus has become almost as rampant as multiple sclerosis, especially with Diet Coke and Diet Pepsi drinkers. The victim usually does not know that the aspartame is the culprit. He or she continues its use, aggravating the lupus to such a degree that it may become life-threatening. We have seen patients with systemic lupus become a symptomatic once taken off diet sodas. In the case of those diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis, (when in reality, the disease is methanol toxicity), most of the symptoms disappear. We've seen many cases where vision returned and hearing improved markedly. This also applies to cases of tinnitus. During a lecture I said "If you are using ASPARTAME (NutraSweet, Equal, Spoonful, etc.) and you suffer from fibromyalgia symptoms, spasms, shooting pains, numbness in your legs, cramps, vertigo, dizziness, headaches, tinnitus, joint pain, depression, anxiety attacks, slurred speech, blurred vision, or memory loss--- you probably have ASPARTAME DISEASE!" People were jumping up during the lecture saying, "I've got some of these symptoms:Is it reversible?" Yes! Not drinking diet sodas and keeping an eye out for aspartame on food labels, yes! We have a very serious problem. A stranger came up to Dr. Espisto (one of my speakers) and me and said: "Could you tell me why so many people seem to be coming down with MS?" During a visit to a hospice, a nurse said that six of her friends, who were heavy Diet Coke addicts, had all been diagnosed with MS. This is beyond coincidence! Diet Coke and Diet Pepsi etc. IS NOT A DIET PRODUCT! The Congressional Record states that it makes you crave carbohydrates and will make you FAT. The formaldehyde stores in the fat cells, particularly in the hips and thighs. Once off these products with significant increase in exercise, etc., Dr. Roberts in his lecture stated that he had patients who lost an average of 19 pounds over a trial period. Aspartame is especially dangerous for diabetics. We found that physicians would believe that they have a patient with retinopathy, when in fact the symptoms are caused by aspartame. The aspartame drives the blood sugar out of control. Thus diabetics may suffer acute memory loss due to the fact that aspartic acid and phenylalanine are neurotoxic without the other amino acids found in protein. Thus it passes the blood brain barrier and deteriorates the neurons of the brain, causing in diabetics (as well as in patients not suffering from diabetes) various kinds of brain damage, seizures, depression, manic depression, panic attacks, rage, violence. (The Aspartame in thousands of pallets of diet Coke and diet Pepsi consumed by men and women fighting in the Gulf War, may be partially to blame for the well-known Gulf War Syndrome.) Dr. Roberts warns that it can cause birth defects i.e. mental retardation if taken at the time of conception and early pregnancy. Children are especially at risk for neurological disorders and should NOT be given NutraSweet. I can relate different case histories of children having mal seizures and other disturbances being on NutraSweet. Unfortunately it is not always easy to convince a mother that aspartame is to blame for her child's illness. Only by trial and success will she be able to warn other mothers to take their children's health in their own hands. Stevia, a sweet herb, NOT A MANUFACTURED ADDITIVE, which helps in the metabolism of sugar (which would be ideal for diabetics) has now been approved as a dietary supplement by the FDA. For years the FDA has outlawed this sweet food because of their loyalty to MONSANTO. Books on this subject are available: EXCITOTOXINS: THE TASTE THAT KILLS written by Dr. Russell Blayblock (Health Press 1-800-643-2665) and DEFENSE AGAINST ALZHEIMER'S DISEASE written by DR H. J. Roberts, also a diabetic specialist. These two doctors will be posting a position paper with some case histories on the deadly effects of Aspartame on the Internet. According to the Conference of the American College of Physicians "we are talking about a plague of neurological diseases caused by this deadly poison." Here is the problem: There were Congressional Hearings when aspartame was included in 100 different products. Since this initial hearing, there have been two subsequent hearings, but to no avail. Nothing has been done. The drug and chemical lobbies have very deep pockets. Now there are over 5,000 products containing this chemical, and the PATENT HAS EXPIRED!!!!! I assure you, MONSANTO, the creator of Aspartame knows how deadly it is. They fund among others, the American Diabetes Association, the American Dietetic Association, the Conference of the American College of Physicians. This has been exposed in the New York Times - to no avail. These Associations cannot criticize any additives or convey their link to MONSANTO because they take money from the food industry and have to endorse their products. Senator Howard Hetzenbaum wrote a bill that would have warned all infants, pregnant mothers and children of the dangers of aspartame. The bill would have also instituted independent studies on the problems existing in the population (seizures, changes in brain chemistry, changes neurological and behavioral;symptoms). It was killed by the powerful drug and chemical lobbies, letting loose the hounds of disease and death on an unsuspecting public. Please print this out or e-mail to family and friends.
This message is specifically to Art but it raises aproject I suggested some years ago. Thank you for the info. You know the amazing thing abpot the last few days is the amount of people contacting me about me being "....but a youngster" You know one of the projects dear to my heart but never accomplished was to have a map of the countries where there were Chase people. It would be an image map so that when you ran the mouse over it you could click on a location and you could go to a link with information provided by the person who lived there. The addresses do not have to be actual but could give just the email address, a brief summary of the people being researched and any other data such as help given such as look-ups or local history info. It would in fact be a graphic listing of our cousins and where they live. In fact I think I will raise this again on the list and see if there is any interest. Who knows people may find thety live close to a distant or even a relative close cousin, Keith ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Monday, October 07, 2002 7:56 PM Subject: Re: [CHASE-L] birthday > During my Air Force Career I spent six years in Bermuda where we used Pounds, > Crowns, half Crowns, Shillings, Sixpence, Thru'pence, Pennies, Ha'pennys and > Farthings.
