    3. I would be happy to participate in the mapping by providing my details, it sounds like a great idea. I know very little about my Chase line currently and with a houseful of sons to raise at the moment family history research has taken a back seat, thus I tend to be more the observer on the list at this time. I would be happy to provide what little information I do have Sandy in South Australia

    3. In response to a query as to how much information can be listed by anyone participating the answer is as much as they like. Preferably in HTML format but if people have no means of doing this then just as text and I can convert to HTML. The minimum amount of information would be name, email address and state or county It was my intention to have the data in "free form" That is people can put what that want in the info. Obviously the main part would be name and email address and then as much other info as that person wants to put up. That is there is no restriction upon the amount of info ----- Original Message ----- From: "Roger & Jean" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Wednesday, October 09, 2002 9:22 PM Subject: Re: [CHASE-L] Image mapping of CHASE/CHACE people's locations > Keith, your idea sounds good, and I'll certainly be happy to be among those > listed. > > If the information (name, city of residence) is to be in columnar form, is > there any way we could have additional columns? 1. [CHASE-L] Image mapping of CHASE/CHACE people's locations
    2. KEITH HUME
    3. PLEASE try to read all of this ,( it may help you get to sleep). Further to my preliminary suggestion regarding having an image map showing the locations of subscribers to this Chase/Chace group. Having now completed my main research on my Hume family I feel I now have the time to accomplish this task which I first syuggested some years ago. Firstly it would be necessary to have an indication of the amount of people interested in giving their basic details. This need be no more than an email address and the State they lived in. To this could be added, if the donor so decides further information such as town or city,( I would hesitate to include a full address). Also that person's research line, who they were looking for and also if they were willing to help others research,( such as supplying information as to the best method of finding ancestors in their State or area) and also any other information they think relavant The basic idea would be to show image maps of the various countries in which CHASE/CHACE people are located. Basically by a mile the largest proportion of subscribers to this list live in the USA and in this case there would be a map of the US showing the various States and the enquirer woukd click on the State they were interested in. This would take them to an enlarged map of that State and by running their mouse pointer over the area they were interested there would be an indication as to whether there was any CHASE/CHACE researcher in that place. I have done some image mapping that would cover the technical side so although anything but expert I am sure I could manage the job and doubtless there are now people on this list ,( Are you still with us Matt Chase?) who could assist. Now I am not too sure how many subscribers there are to the list but the last I heard it was in the hundreds. For this to be worth doing I feel it would be necessary for , at least 80 people to be interested and cannot see why ANY member of the Group could see anything but benefit from this. Having learnt the hard way I must say that ,at this time, and purely if those participating agree it would be my interntion to distribute these maps only to those who took part..Rest assured it will cost them nothing except a little time. I appreciate that there are some who just monitor the list and never write or contribute and I also acknowledge that some may feel they must learn more before participating and to those I would say here is a way to have your rwesearch interests available and possibly to help others with theirs. As Virginia Reeder,( you are still my heroine, Ginger !), said about searching for William's roots " If we all work at this I am sure we can solve the mystery" Well it is up to you ALL, Keith Hume

    3. Clear DayAll this discussion about mapping of our surname jogged my memory about a site I had seen once. I was able to find it again. You can put in any surname and it shows the distribution of that surname for the years 1850, 1890, 1920 and 1990 in the US. I don't believe this is exactly what you are talking about doing, but it may be a start and there may be other things on the site that would help (what sounds like a monumental task to me!!) in the creation of such a map for the Chase surname. http://genealogy.lv/search/US Surname Tools.htm Edie Palmer

    3. I am going to try this again. and with hopes that someone in the Chase family can help me. I am searching for the Chase family of Orlando Chase married to Eunice Griggs They may have been the parents of a Fred L. Chase who is supposedly married to a Lillie Bridget Gallup during the early 1900. She was living in the California area in 1891 when her father Luke William Gallup died there. (The Santa Anna area) Please search your files for any information on this family. Someone in the family history web site thought that this Chase family may have come from the Quebec area but could not provide any proveth. Sharon (Canada)

I know very little about my CHASE line, but will gladly share what I have. It is a worthwhile project in my opinion (again, for what its worth) Arlene

    3. (Rex and Richard et al, I believe there is enough Family History content so as not to breach the concepts of this list. ) Most interesting,Frank BUT I am confused especially about the White Anglo Saxon bit. I can only assume you got it from the people your Chase ancestors married for you should be aware that the Chase family name although European was not derived from either the Anlges , Saxons or a combination of the 2 races.. It is possible that if one of your ancestors was an employee or serf to a Chase family then they may have adopted the name when surnames started to be used. As for being a Far Right Wing Conservative. While the term may be OK in the States in the rest of the English speaking world it would be termed Fascist and I am sure that would not be your politics, Keith Hume " He who blows his own trumpet is in a very small band" Emerson, I believe? > > Colonel Frank Chace, USMC (Ret) member Sons of the Revolution, Free Soilers > Party aka the Republican Party, White Anglo Saxon Protestant Episcopalian, > and Far Right Wing Conservative....and a "Yankee Doodle" to you too!. >

    3. Keith, your idea sounds good, and I'll certainly be happy to be among those listed. If the information (name, city of residence) is to be in columnar form, is there any way we could have additional columns? In those we could list the state(s) that our Chase ancestors came from . . . perhaps even their first names. I realize this compounds the work involved. Any thoughts? 2. KEITH HUME
    3. Hi,Rex, I agree with you although I must admit that I have , from time to time, probably transgressed the bounds of the proper purposes of this Group. Lisa, if you read this it might be useful if Rootsweb have an official definition. I will try to be more careful in future but I am sure you will agree that it is not always easy to mark boundaries when talking of genealogy or as I prefer to call it, with regard to this group, Family Research. The whole thing becomes more difficult when account is taken of the fact that many of us have been subscribers to this list for some years and although we have not always seen each other " eye to eye " nevertheless I now look upon many as at the least friends and sometimes as " cousins" in both the literal and vernacular sense. So it is sometimes all to easy to forget the basic functions of the Group. Thankfully we have an administrator who appears to recognise the "family" atmosphere that has developed here and consequently allowed us som free rein. We should be careful not to abuse it and in this regard I feel that at least one of the latest messages has exceeded those bounds by a long way. Now having got that off my chest how about more of you saying how you feel about the functions of the Group? I would appreciate one of the more experienced Genealogists to write a few words about the differences between Genealogy and Family Research. For me the differences are fundamental but I would like others views? Are you a Genealogist or a Family History Researcher?
