    3. Hi everyone well we already have 45 signed up so with another 35 i really think the project as a CHASE-L one will fly I must be feeling creative this week,( It is the keen east wind blowing in from Europe that does it ! ) but after this gets under way I have another idea that some of you may be interested in and that will require very little effort on your part also it will still fly if only 2 of you are interested. But enough at the present, Just a further detail. It concerns my definition of the information being in free form. At this time it means just that but for some examples of what some of you have already produced go to http://www.surnameweb.org/centers/c/chase/ and click on Histories of Chase/Chace families. OR you can simply give your email address and your interest and willingness to help others if relavent. Pictures can be included but if you send data as an attachment then please try to scan for any Virus. I will do so as well, Keith Hume

    2. Enjoyed reading your e-mail. I grew up in Swansea and return there often. Have written several articles about the Chase/Chace family for the Spectator...Came home this summer for a Case High reunion at Benjamin's and a boat trip down the Tontine River. All the names you mentioned are in my genealogy...especially Hathaway..Strange and Sherman all married Chase/Chaces in Freetown. I always go to the Hathaway Cemetery in Freetown and feel terrible that it is so neglected. There are both Chases and Chaces there. Those who fought in the Revolution have Chace on their gravestones..the other brothers who were Tories are buried as Chase. We lived so close together and I notice your spelling of Chase..In Swansea, Somerset, Rehobeth and Warren, RI, there are virtually no Chases. New Bedford is full of them, as is the Cape. Many children born as Chace in Bristol County and moved to the Cape were renamed Chase for convenience..I wrote a note for Ancestry about this. I am still working on putting a picture book together on the graves of all my Chase/Chace relatives..starting with William 1 in West Harwich. I have everything I need...but need some time. I have had several inquiries about Chase/Chaces who were Quakers. I have all the reference material and will start on that soon. Mt favorite and most prominent relative Quaker was Rev Obidiah Chace, lived in Swansea, born in Warren, RI and had his Quaker Church in Somerset. Really a very interesting man who had great influence on early America..and the people who he ministered to...His line was : William wife Mary William (wife not in this particular reference) William wife Hannah Sherman Eber wife Mary Knowles Eber wife Sarah Baker Obidiah wife Eunice Anthony Anthony wife Isabel Buffington ` In 1845 Obidiah married Esther Taber Freeborn Married for 60 years Four children; Charles Anthony Emma Rogers Walter Freeborn George Mahlon At age 34, he was approved a Minister of the Gospel for the Somerset Meeting House. He was there for 50 years and served without salary. He wrote a book of poems available in the Swansea Library One of these days I will type his whole history as contained in the History of Swansea Have fond memories of Taunton. Wouldn't have been Christmas unless a trip to the Taunton Green was made. Colonel Frank Chace

    3. So far I have received 23 positive responses to my Image Map IN message. I would ask all those who sent emails of support PRIOR to my asking for a response with "Image Map IN" as the subject to send me an email if they have not already done so. Simply repling to this with the IN in the body of the message will suffice, Keith Hume

    2. Good Morning Keith, Good luck with the mapping project ! You can add me and I will do what I can as time permits. As you probably recall, I am right in the heart of CHASE country of Freetown and Taunton, Massachusetts and a member of the Old Colony Historical Society located in Taunton, MA, Freetown Historical Society and NEGHS. I have the following information and/or look up capabilities to contribute: 1. Vital Records of the Town of Freetown, Massachusetts 1686 through 1890 (1988) compiled by Helen Gurney Thomas. Freetown Town Clerk uses this book as a reference for vital records in her office. 2. Berkley Massachusetts Cemetery Inscriptions (1997) by Gail E. Terry 3. some certified records of our CHASE ancestors from Freetown, MA including STRANGE, SHERMAN and HATHAWAY 4. Hathaways of America 1970 Edition and Hathaways 1200-1980 by Elizabeth Starr Versailles, A.B., A.M., C.G. 5. digital picture of James P. CHASE and Elizabeth DOUGLASS' grave in New Brunswick, Canada that I took while there. Their son, George Piercy CHASE, is buried with his parents and listed on the gravestone as well. Regards, Cousin Beth

    3. Clear DayHello ! Yes, please count me in - I will contribute what ever I can, which I do not feel is much since there are so many of you who seem so knowledgeable about our roots. Of course, I probably could be more knowledgeable if I wasn't so busy chasing down information on 7 lines! Pun intended!! LOL!! Keith, there was something you said in one of your previous messages that has been bothering me. Perhaps I mistook your intent, but you said something on the order of only giving this information to those who had contributed. I well understand the feelings of spending so much time gathering information and then "handing it over" to some one who has not "paid their dues", but isn't the purpose of our mission to connect with our relatives and gather more information? If I have misunderstood what you were saying, I humbly apologize, and hope you will correct my interpretation. But, I think that if we only keep this information to ourselves we may miss opportunities to gather more - maybe even the opportunity to resolve the "Aquilla dilemma" that has been such a hot topic ever since I joined the list. A suggestion - each of us having a Web Page sounds way cool, but since it seems that many already have their own web page wouldn't it be easier to just include a link to that information? Also, it may be helpful to include the names of other lines we are searching. Hope you all have a GREAT day!

    3. So far I am encouraged by the response I have had to the idea of an Image Map As in some cases I have already had more than one email from some of you on the subject could I ask for your forbearance and by requesting the ALL of those interested send a simple email with the subject "Image Map IN". I can then put them in a separate folder and ensure I do not miss anyone. If anyone has any ideas about how this idea may be improved I would be interested. Even more I would be keenly interested to hear from anyone who thinks there may be some drawbacks with the idea. I repeat that I cannot see any reason why ANYONE subscribing to this group should not participate but if someone can enlighten me I would be grateful. To those of you who say you have very little to contribute I repeat that this is one way you could be of assistance and also receive help. So we are well on the way to my basic figure of 80 but I would be disappointed if it was not at least 200. Footnote;- So everyone understands as the information supplied will be free form, i.e as the donor dictates each one will have a seperate web page. I have the space available, I see my role as developing the Image map and linking to the various pages. It would assist if someone volunteers to convert text to html for those who cannot do this. Keith

    3. My Apologies to All, Yes, I should have checked the article out before sending it and should not have used the list to send this type message. I'm VERY sorry if I caused anyone concern.... My intentions were good........just wanted all my cuz's to know about any potential danger. I remember the Saccarhin problem and that affected my judgment. Also the following: "Books on this subject are available: EXCITOTOXINS: THE TASTE THAT KILLS written by Dr. Russell Blayblock (Health Press 1-800-643-2665) and DEFENSE AGAINST ALZHEIMER'S DISEASE written by DR H. J. Roberts, also a diabetic specialist. These two doctors will be posting a position paper with some case histories on the deadly effects of Aspartame on the Internet." For what it's worth tho, my Dr., who was one to keep abreast of the latest medical new, said to stay away from the stuff. Again, please accept my humble apology. Sincerely, Barb PS Re Keith's map idea, I too feel this is a fantastic idea. It would certainly provide closer links among the various branches of the family. I agree with Marion's sentiments when she says, "who knows, we may have relatives in the next town or down the street that we didn't know existed." Knowing this info, we might well be further motivated to search out more family ties. Therefore, I would very much like to participate in this.
