Thanks for bringing this to our attention. I used it on the "off chance" of finding some of my Chase ancestors, and found new mysteries re my great grandparents-- The Joseph Chase (born in New York) I had searched for is apparently Charles Ervin Chase, born in Joplin, Jasper County, MO abt 1850. His wife, Rose Skinner, was NOT born in Pennsylvania but also in Joplin, abt 1854. My, my, that means I need to join ANOTHER county list! Hi, I am sorry but any further adjustments to the database are not being allowed by surnameweb. The great thing about this database is that it is run by the host computer using a script. That is why it was possible to add links to individuals. If you are having trouble with spamming I would suggest you get "Mailwasher" This programme allows you to check the messages ont he server and to reject them. One done anything further from them is automatically bounced back. It is a GREAT system, Keith ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Tuesday, October 22, 2002 5:13 PM Subject: Fixing the Database > Keith, sorry to trouble you with details, but I just now have had time to > check out the web pages which look super but I really would prefer if in the > listing for Christopher Columbus Chase, anything after Arthur B. The tall thing and the hair color thing and the eye color thing are all very interesting, but what of it? As far as being tall, Judy Needham's response is very apropos. Nations with a preponderence of milk drinkers and beef eaters are invariably taller. Why? Hmm. Well, there are some big cows out there. I am Six feet, Two inches. Tall? Maybe. In the Netherlands, I am just an average specimen of tallness. In Italy, I am a giant. Jeffrey Chace
Hello Ed, I would like to know where Samuel came from. I found the following through a simple search of "Samuel Rodman Chase" on www.google.com. Despatch. Colonial Government schooner, 20 tons. Built at Macquarie Harbour, Tasmania, 1825-1826. Captain Samuel Rodman Chase. Arrived at Hobart on her maiden voyage on 17 February 1826. Sailed from Hobart for Maria Island with stores in March 1826, but was never seen or heard from again. Presumed lost in a gale off Cape Pillar. [TS1] .... and further .... Du Buc. Whaler, ship, 306 tons. Originally the Spanish L?Aimable Sofia, seized as a prize in 1797, and owned by a London syndicate which included the master. Lbd 96.8. x 27.9. x 5.1 ft. Captain Samuel Chase. In a condemned condition, beached at Kangaroo Point (Bellerive), Hobart, 1808; her remains were visible for many years. She had been whaling in the Derwent and sailed for London with a full cargo of oil in October 1808, but was forced to return in a leaking condition. [TS1] But this is from Tasmania, downunder. http://www.netspace.net.au/~oceans1/tas-wrecks.html The spelling "Samuel Rodman Chace" turned up nothing on Google. Cheers, Jeffrey Chace > I am seeking information regarding Samuel Rodman CHASE or CHACE, a > sealer who was active in the 1790-1810 period. Thank you. > > Ed Herron
Dear Vivian, That's probably the best use of the image map in the first place. Placing ancestors at different times in different places. He or she would be unique, Age, Birthday, Husband or Wife and children, year and location. So, there is no need to differentiate. You would immediately have enough information to place the family of Chace/ses in a tree and find possible links with the family. Good idea. I for one am for it. Here's a list I would like included: William, the elder, 1630 - 1659 Massachusetts William, the younger, 1630-(don't remember off the top of my head) Massachusetts. Joseph Chace, 1652/53 Mass. 1680-1724 Rhode Island Moses Chace, 1712? Rhode Island m. Alice Sherman 1742 Joseph Chace 1784 married Isabel Thomas in Rhode Island Burgess Thomas 1806 married Rebecca Chace in Rhode Island Thomas Chace 1807-1878 Rhode Island, 1878-1895 Shawnee, Kansas Thomas Chace, Jr. Born in Providence RI. 1860s College in Grinnell, Iowa. Lived then also for a time in Kellog, Iowa. Died in Shawnee, Kansas. Some of us went on later to South Dakota (Alonzo Chace), California (same Alonzo, and his sister Eunice Lucretia Chace, Florida (Amasa Chace), and Oklahoma (Thomas Chase). Jeffrey Chace > Hi, > I was wondering if I should send in info for a Chase that > moved away. They went to OK in the late 1800 came back aand got his > family and moved them out there too.... > Vivian
It is quite possible that a few families of CHASE/CHACE will bear similarities. However being named CHASE/CHACE is no guarantee of having dominant genes. Bearing in mind that the name is most probably French then one would look for a Gallic appearance to be "Chaselike" Keith ----- Original Message ----- From: "Meg Stockwell" <[email protected]> To: <CHASE-[email protected]> Sent: Monday, October 21, 2002 8:21 PM Subject: [CHASE-L] Ensign-Tall > The Chase men in our family are all tall. Hi,Ellie, Thank you although for many of us 30 seconds would be considered a long time. As part of the work I have split the map up. In a few days I will be loading a more complete basic layout. Though I have not yet been able to tie into any of the Chase lines written about on this list, my Chase relatives are all very tall - well over six feet. My dad was the "runt" of his family at 6'1". They were blue-eyed and light-haired. My Chase grandfather was 6'4".
I've received additional information regarding Samuel Rodman CHASE or CHASE regarding location. "He was quite a big player in the early history of Aus. and NZ, one of the founders of the sealing trade." EH

How do I find the image map?
Meg Stockwell commented on Chase/Chace traits - in answer: Interestingly, my only sibling, brother David, is 6'6" tall - but I have always ascribed that to his after-school habit as a youngster of finishing a bottle of milk while standing at the refrigerator - before sitting down to a second bottle to enjoy with cookies! However, going back to one of my Chase grandfathers (I think I have six different Chase lines so far), I definitely know that he was not tall! James Chase, who served in the Continental Army in Col. Ezra Newhall's 5th Regiment from Harwich, Barnstable County, Massachusetts, aged 19 in 1780, was described as dark complected and short - 5'5"! That James was the son of Captain Job Chase (William, John, William, William) and Edith Bassett. The description of James Chase is from #6167 on "A Descriptive List of Men", Massachusetts Muster and Payrolls, Massachusetts Archives, Vol 225, Page 469. As for the brilliant blue eyes that seem to be a part still today of our Chace family (many of our third cousins share this trait as do my brother and my 3 year old grandson, Chace), I believe that they came into the tree about 4 generations ago from the distaff side with Mayflower descendant Lucy Arnold, wife to James Chace (Joseph Chase, Joseph, Joseph, Thomas, John, William, William).
