    2. From: Jon Chandler Hi fellow Chandlers. Here is my story - I'm sorry its a bit long but when we're all talking about Chandlers you have to offer some details!!!! Particularly keen to hear from anyone who may emerge off a higher branch! My direct ancestors are in bold George and Elizabeth Chandler christened Richard Chandler on May 20, 1793 at Saint Pauls, Covent Garden. (unconfirmed as right ancestor)They also christened his brother, George, at Saint Martin in the Fields on Oct 14, 1794. Richard became an upholsterer (or upholderer, or upholsterier). Richard married Elizabeth Gregory at St Martin in the Fields on 9 February, 1812 In 1814, they were living in Bowling Street. They christened their daughter Sophia at Westminster St. James in Picadilly on October 8, 1814. She had been born on September 14. Anne, was born on 17 June 1819, and christened at Westminster St James on 25 July. Elizabeth Frances, christened 1832 at Soho St Anne church in Dean Street. Now, Richard declares that he is an “upholsterier” living in St. Marylebone. By 1835 the family had moved again - this time to Masons Place, in Finsbury, just to the east of the West End. Arthur Alexander Chandler was christened at St Luke’s, Old Street in 1835. William Gregory Chandler, was born on 10 February 1817, and christened at Westminster St James on 3 March., and became a schoolmaster in Northants, Leicestershire, Rutland and Warwicks. He died in Floore, Northants, near Weedon. in 1890. He gave his occcupation as greengrocer by then Children: Sarah Elizabeth was born on September 11, 1844 in Greens Norton. She followed her parents footsteps and became an “elementary teacher” by the age of 16, when the family was living in Hilmorton. She married Charles Henry Higham at Saint Andrews, Rugby on 25 June 1870. By 1881, they were living at 2 Clifton Road, Rugby. With three children - Sarah L. Born 1873, Alfred L. Born 1875 and William H. Born 1878. William Carter Chandler was born on 28 March 1846 at Greens Norton. By the 1861 census, when the family was living in Lower Hilmorton, he was an apprentice plumber, painter and glazier, aged 15. He married twice. The second marriage was to Mary Ann Smith of Sheffield, daughter of traveller Henry Smith. They married on September 29, 1879 at St James Church in Sheffield. William was living at 57, Talbot Park Street (?) and Mary Ann at 106 Trippet Lane. They had at least three children - Ethel Mary, born in 1879 in Nottingham, Clara Emily, born 1880 and Sara Ellen, born 1881, both in Sheffield. Walter George was born in Harby in 1849. By 1881 was living at 25 Morton Street, Gorton, near the centre of Manchester, working as a shoemaker. He married Sarah, who was born in Saxilby in Lincolnshire in 1841. Eldridge Chandler was born in 1852 in Harby. By 1881, he was living at 83 Whitfield Street, which runs parallel with Tottenham Court Road. He described his occupation as a machine boot closer - and appeared to share his home with a seam machinist. He marrried Francis E, born 1857 in Chelsea. Their first child, Winifred E, was born in 1880, presumably at Whitfield Street. Arthur A. Chandler was born in 1854 in Liddington, Rutland. How he became a “journeyman baker” living in Terrington, West Norfolk, He married a local girl - Lucy Green, daughter of John and Ann-Marie Green, on 8 December, 1880. Octavius Windslow Chandler was born in 1855 in Harby, Leicestershire.By 1881 he was boot manufacturer , in the heart of Norwich’s shoemaking district, with a workshop in St George's Middle Street, employing 31 hands. He had married a Northampton girl - Emma L - born 1855. She gave her occupation as a bootxxxx fitter.He had three children by then - Albert W, born 1876, Martha E, born 1878 and Arthur F, born 1879.all in Norwich. and Arthur, Richard Chandler the, was the eldest son, born in Greens Norton in 1841, became drapers assistant and lived in Stafford, Manchester, Leeds and Birmingham Had ten children, including Herbert, my grandfather, (born 1885) in Birmimgham
