If both, is Joseph the son of John? As for the census records for state of birth, my Great-Grandfather has 3 different states listed on 3 different census records, along with 3 different dates of birth. What does his birth/death certificate say, for place of birth for the person you're looking for as well as his parents? What do the 1900 and 1910 census records for the state of Washington say? Did the mother die in Washington in 1902/03 or did she die prior to them being in the state? Is there a death index available for this timeframe? My Chandler's hail from the SW Arkansas area and I know that in the early 1900's, it was not unusual for folks to hire on and follow the crop harvests. I've run across several families who have roots in SW ARK, but would migrate yearly to the Oregon/Washington area to pick up extra money doing the harvesting. Where did the son or father marry? I've had better luck tracing the wives lineages than the husbands! Those are my pearls of wisdom, such as they are. I wish I could help you, but I don't have a John J. or Joseph B. Chandler in any of my database. Rebecca >> Hi ! Rebecca; Joe Buster Chandler was my father and his father was either John J. or A.J. Chandler. I know my father existed, but he knew or could not remember anything about his own family. On my father's Chandler side I have no other surnames then CHANDLER. He stated that he may have had an Aunt or Uncle, but no names or other relatives or siblings were remembered. I would guess that Joe may have gone to live with his (red headed) Aunt as that is all he remembered, but he wasen't sure if she was an Aunt, sister or even a relative. Joe Buster Chandler said that he was born in Spokane, WA. 09/09/1899. I have not found him on the 1900 or 1910 census. I believe that he is listed on the 1920 census in Pacific Co. WA., but the age and place of birth do not match his records. Death records do exist for 1902/03 for Spokane Co. where I believe the wife (my Grandmother) died, but they are very limited and of course, I don't have a name other then Chandler to look for. My father Joe did migrate as a fruit picker from Washington to San Diego, California where he lived until his death in 1984. My father Joe married in San Diego, CA. in 1930 to Winora Gilson.
