This is the first time I have posted a message to this type of system, so I should introduce myself. My name is John Kilford, and I live in Sydney, Australia. My Grandmother was Ethel Violet Chandler, and she was born in 1892 in Godmanchester, Hunts. Her father was John Daintree Chandler, born in March. I have details of a further two generations of Chandler, and go a John Chandler born at Conington about 1805 (this from a census return). Any connections or data about Chandlers in this time and area would be most gratefully received.

Hi Steve I didn't find Emma or "Gus" in George Chandler's book "The Descendants of William and Annis Chandler of Roxbury, Mass." "A.C." would be more difficult: it could be any of the men in the index whose name began with "A."! However, not finding Emma is a good indication that she was not from this branch. It would be helpful if you knew whereabouts they were. Besides the Chandler name, I also have Hicks and Roberts ...... both lines from New England .... with lots of info on both; if you want further data, please e-mail me so we don't tie up the "Chandler" list with "Hicks" / "Roberts" data! Happy Hunting! Sally
Hello to all! I am new to the list and thought I would let everyone know who I was looking for. The first person I have information on is Emma Clay Chandlier, b. 21 Oct 1871, d. 6 Jul 1959, and married Ellison Levi Smith 14 Feb, 1887. His parents were Hiram Chesney Smith and Rebecca C. Morris. Emma And Ellison had at least one child Chesney Augustus. Emma's parents were A.C. Gus Chandlier and Josephine Egner, neither of which I have records on. I would greatly appreciate any information anyone has on Emma Clay, Josephine, or A.C. "Gus". Thanks. Hallie V. b 1877 There seems to have been a possible connection between black Nannie, her son James Thomas, a white Adolphus Chandler, black Susan Bird/Byrd and black William Bird/Byrd, son of Susan Bird/Byrd of Halifax Co Va. In the 1850 Census there is a listing of Free Blacks Melunia/Melvnia Bird, 29y Susan Bird, 30y William W. Bird, 3y In the 1860 Census again Free Blacks, Melunia/Melvinia Byrd, 40y $100 in Real Estate, $50 in pers. prop. Susan Byrd, 40y Susan Byrd, 8/12 Also living there is a White man, Adolphus Chandler, 45y, $1,400 in Real Estate, $1,200 in pers. prop. William 14y, son of Susan is living 9 houses away with a Thomas Gallimore. In 1870, I found neither Adolphus or Nannie, seems they were missed. In 1880, Nannie is living with her 8 children. Next door is our William Byrd/Bird, widowed with 3 children. Any connections out there? Larry
