Dear Judy, I am smiling but not because I have the answer. I am smiling because "William" Chandler seems to be the most elusive Chandler for so many of us. Any one who doesn't have one, please stand up! Hi All, I'm trying to sort out my William CHANDLERs and hope someone has the answer. If this list is like the other lists, and I'm sure it is, someone will have the information. #1. William CHANDLER (1595 England-1641 Roxbury, MA) married Annis BAYFORD (1603 England-1683 Roxbury, MA). This William had a son, William, born in 1636 who had a son, William, born in 1661, I believe. #2. William CHANDLER (1616 England-1701 Newbury, MA) married Mary FOWLER (1617 England-1666 Newbury, MA). This William married two more Marys (one at a time) after his first wife's death. My questions are: Are these two William CHANDLERs connected in any way or are they two unrelated people? If they are related then in what way? I hope someone is reading this and smiling because the answer is so simple and they have it. Thanks. Regards, Judy McIntyre
Benay Unfortunately, the dates of the Chandlers you have are too recent to be included in George Chandler's book "The Chandler Family: Descendants of William and Annis Chandler Who Settled in Roxbury, Mass., 1637." His book was published in 1883. Sally
Homer I didn't find Comfort Gilman in the index of "Names Other Than Chandlers" in "The Chandler Family: Descendants of William and Annis Chandler Who Settled in Roxbury, Mass, 1637." Darn! Being that your "David" was from Vermont, I was hopeful he would connect! Best Wishes Sally
Could someone also look up in this infamous Chandler genealogy---an Ollie May Chandler, born 1900 in Texas? I don't know the name of her father but her mother's name was Lena. Ollie May married Floyd Scott Richey on Oct. 28, 1917 in Pine Forest, Hopkins Co., TX. I am trying to find out more about her parents and I can not locate them on the census. She may not have been born in Texas but I don't know where else to look or who to ask. If someone comes across her, please let me know. Thank you, Ms. Benay Deckard
Can someone check the Chandler genealogy for a David Chandler born circa 1779 in Vermont. He was married to a Comfort Gilman and they lived at Walden, Caledonia Co., VT in 1809 through 1813, then moved to Lockport, Niagara Co., NY, moving to Genesee Co., NY by 1816. He died in Pendleton, Niagara Co., NY in 1828. David and Comfort had the following children: John G., Samuel, Sally, Eliza B., William A., Angeline E., Caroline Miranda, and Palmyra W. Homer Thiel Tucson, AZ
Hi Holly I didn't find Eleanor Mourning Hays in the index of The Chandler Family: Descendants of William and Annis Chandler Who Settled in Roxbury, Mass, 1637. I would conclude that your William "Buck" Chandler descended from a different line. Best Wishes! Sally

I found some information today that leads me to believe that an ancestor may not have disappeared in California during the Gold Rush. Sanborn Johnson B: ABT. 1833 in Brooks, Waldo County, ME I have a hand written note from my Grandmother, Rosa Lee Johnson Saxton, that says: "went to California in 1849, and not heard from after he wrote to his mother he was coming home, as he had all the gold he wanted." I found a listing on the "Family Search.com" site listing a Sanborn Johnson marrying JENNIE CHANDLER in 1860 in Sonoma County CA. If anyone has any information, I would greatly appreciate it!! Dana Gould
William Chandler died ca 1745 in Lunenburg Co. VA. His two sons William and Abraham were bond out. I believe that William married a TALBOT since one son went to him and in his will Mathew TALBOT mentions his godson Abraham CHANDLER. Also would like to find out who Abraham married. His daughter was Jane. _____________________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Free instant messaging and more at http://messenger.yahoo.com
From: Jon Chandler Hi fellow Chandlers. Here is my story - I'm sorry its a bit long but when we're all talking about Chandlers you have to offer some details!!!! Particularly keen to hear from anyone who may emerge off a higher branch! My direct ancestors are in bold George and Elizabeth Chandler christened Richard Chandler on May 20, 1793 at Saint Pauls, Covent Garden. (unconfirmed as right ancestor)They also christened his brother, George, at Saint Martin in the Fields on Oct 14, 1794. Richard became an upholsterer (or upholderer, or upholsterier). Richard married Elizabeth Gregory at St Martin in the Fields on 9 February, 1812 In 1814, they were living in Bowling Street. They christened their daughter Sophia at Westminster St. James in Picadilly on October 8, 1814. She had been born on September 14. Anne, was born on 17 June 1819, and christened at Westminster St James on 25 July. Elizabeth Frances, christened 1832 at Soho St Anne church in Dean Street. Now, Richard declares that he is an “upholsterier” living in St. Marylebone. By 1835 the family had moved again - this time to Masons Place, in Finsbury, just to the east of the West End. Arthur Alexander Chandler was christened at St Luke’s, Old Street in 1835. The second marriage was to Mary Ann Smith of Sheffield, daughter of traveller Henry Smith. They married on September 29, 1879 at St James Church in Sheffield. William was living at 57, Talbot Park Street (?) and Mary Ann at 106 Trippet Lane. They had at least three children - Ethel Mary, born in 1879 in Nottingham, Clara Emily, born 1880 and Sara Ellen, born 1881, both in Sheffield. Walter George was born in Harby in 1849. By 1881 was living at 25 Morton Street, Gorton, near the centre of Manchester, working as a shoemaker. He married Sarah, who was born in Saxilby in Lincolnshire in 1841. Eldridge Chandler was born in 1852 in Harby. By 1881, he was living at 83 Whitfield Street, which runs parallel with Tottenham Court Road. Hi Sue Just did a look-up in George Chandler's "Descendants of William and Annis Chandler Who Settled in Roxbury, Mass., 1637" and didn't find a connection. There are too many William Chandler's in the index to try that avenue, but I checked out the index for Cornelius Huff, Flora Campbell, and Susan [Susannah] Bassett. None of them were there. Best Wishes in your search! Sally
Our Chandler ancestors are: William Henry Chandler was born around 1830, supposedly in Bridgeport, Connecticut. He married Flora M. Campbell (abt. 1836-1888) on September 28, 1854 at the Episcopalian Church of St John the Baptist in NYC. William and Flora had three daughters: Susan Amelia Chandler (@1857-1881), married Cornelius Huff; Maria Louisa Chandler (aka Amelia Louise) (@1860- 1911), married Jacob van Tassell Cobb; and Sarah Malvina Chandler (@1861-1949), married William Hurley. William Henry died February 21, 1863 and is buried in Cypress Hills Cemetery in Queens, NY. William Henry's parents were William Henry Chandler, Sr. (abt. 1800-before 1840) and Susan A. (aka Susannah) Bassett (abt. 1803-1878). W.H. and Susan had the following children: William Henry, Jr. (see above); John Chandler; Sarah Chandler; Clara Chandler; Joseph Chandler. William Henry, Sr., according to what little information we have, was born, lived and died in Bridgeport, Connecticut. Any help in finding his ancestors would be greatly appreciated. Good luck and good hunting. Sue Huff

Hi Sally, RE: (to Claudia) Are you descended from William and Annis Chandler who >settled in Roxbury, Mass in 1637? ---- Hello cousin, Our family is descended from the William and Annis > William Chandler and Mary (Dane) > Joseph Chandler and Mehitable (Russell) > Mehitable Chandler and Roert Crosby > Joel Crosby and Hannah Stevens > Rebecaa Crosby and Asher Hinds > Crosby Hinds and Isabella Shepherd > Fred M. Hinds and Frances A. Brown > Robert Branch Cole and Carrie Belle Hinds > Kennenth Robert Cole and Mildred I. Ricker > Elizabeth (Betty) Cole and Stanton Proper We lost the family name in Andover, MA. Which line do you come through? I (Betty, above) grew up on Chandlers Corner (corner of Chandler Street and Main) in Tewksbury, MA and did not know about our connection to the Chandlers until about 5 years ago. One of my regrets is that we did not learn of this connection until about 5 years after my father died. :-), Betty Proper
Claudia wrote: > I think I read something about a Chandler Iron Foundry in Connecticut back in > the 18th Century. Hi Claudia Not to say there weren't Chandler-run iron works in CT in the 1700's, but I'm pretty sure there were some in eastern Mass by earlier generations. I'll see what I can find out in my copy of George Chandler's book in the next few days. Are you descended from William and Annis Chandler who settled in Roxbury, Mass in 1637? Sally
Warren Rand Chandler, born April 15, 1833 to Ira and Sally (Warren) Chandler in Lovell, Oxford Co., Maine. (from George and Annis Chandler Book) He had sister Laura Jane and brother Edward Tom Chandler (mine) who was in Pickins Co. AL on 1860 census as apprentice to Moses L. Cline, his future father-in-law. He died in Nuxabee Co., MS. Edward and Laura are found on later census, but not Warren. Does anyone know what became of Warren Rand Chandler? Why did Edward go to Mississippi? I think I read something about a Chandler Iron Foundry in Connecticut back in the 18th Century. Does anybody know about it? Claudia
