Hi, Chandler researchers... I am trying to find information about William Henry Chandler, who was born around 1830. This approximate year of of birth is corroborated by the Manhattan City Clerk's entry regarding William Chandler's marriage to Flora M. Campbell on September 28, 1854. This ledger entry also records William Chandler's place of birth as New York. William Chandler died in 1863. According to his death certificate, he was born in Connecticut. William Chandler and Flora Campbell had the following children: Susan (1856-1881, married Cornelius Huff); Maria Louisa (1860-1911, married Jacob Van Tassel Cobb); and Sarah Malvina (1861-1949, married William Henry Hurley). William Chandler may have been the son of William Henry Chander and Susan Bassett, but we have been unable to corroborate this information, which came from an "investigator" who did not supply any hard evidence for the information (ie., no birth record, no marriage record, etc.). If anyone has any information about William Chandler and his ancestors, I'd love to share information. Good hunting, Susan Huff

I have the Chandler family book and my uncle has the family bible. I have seen the graves of 2 of Annis and Williams sons who moved to Enfield Conn from N.Andover Mass. The family landed from England to Roxberry and settled in Andover Mass where William died of consumption. The family after some church disagreements in Andover moved to W. Andover and joined the West Andover church and many of the family are burried there. The Chandler family book can be purchased from a book company in Salem Mass for 150. dollars.

He was most probably born the son of William Chandler of Newbury, Massachusetts. Timothy, Sr., lived in Somerset, Middlesex Co., New Jersey. His son was Timothy, Jr. (2), Isaac (3), and John (4) who served in the New Jersey Militia in the Revolutionary War. John and his wife Elizabeth Clark Chandler sold their property in NJ and traveled west, to Cayuga Co., New York in the late 1790's. They brought their 5 children to NYS where they lived until their deaths. Four of their children married and had families in NYS. Their only daughter married and went west to Michigan in the early 1800's. My family is directly descended from their youngest son Daniel Blackford Chandler (5) and Adeline Farr Chandler. There are Chandler descendants (Generations 9, 10, 11, and 12) still living in upstate NY today in Schuyler, Seneca, Cayuga, Chemung and Monroe Counties. Others are living in New Jersey, Oklahoma, Illinois, and Ohio. We are still researching our Chandler family tree and expect to be working on for a considerable time. You might find additional information in the CHANDLER Surname grouping. Look for Timothy Chandler, Sr. Also look for Son Chandler and Job Chandler (dates in the early 1600's). They were in Maryland and Virginia. This might be an excellent reference for you. Mel Gapen has researched that family line and has a considerable amount of information on the Southern Chandler family tree. Hope I have been helpful. Sorry I couldn't give you any current information on your particular branch of the Chandler family tree. Ellsworth Lynch

While I don't have any information on the individuals you list, I am interested in finding out if the Clivers you are researching my have a connection to my relatives. My great aunt was named Hannah Joyce Cliver Knorr, born in Philadelphia in 1908. We have no Clivers in our genealogy that I know of, and the family story was that Joyce had been named for the nanny who worked for the family for many years. My grandmother is the only surviving Knorr from that line and her memory of the family history is limited, so that's all we have to go on. Joyce's mother was a Chandler -- Amelia MacIntyre Chandler (b 1879) m. Joseph Chadwick Knorr (b 1878). Let me know if you have any find any additional information on this line. > From: rivel1@yahoo.com > Date: 2 Jan 2004 16:17:50 -0700 > To: CHANDLER-L@rootsweb.com > Subject: [CHANDLER] Re: William Chandler > Resent-From: CHANDLER-L@rootsweb.com > Resent-Date: Fri, 2 Jan 2004 16:25:56 -0700 > > This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. > > Classification: Query > > Message Board URL: > > http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/iUI.2ACIB/1694.1 > > Message Board Post: > > I'm researching information on a Frank Cliver, whom I believe was born in > either 1866 or 1883. > > At one point, he lived in Philadelphia with my grandmother - > Lillian M. Another in TX was age 35, married to an Elvira. This was in Nacogdoches Co., and he and his parents were b. in TX. There was one in Boshart, Marshall Co., AL, age 29, wife Minnie Lee, and there was one in Pleasant District, Clay Co., WV, age 38, b. KY, parents b. unknown, with wife Ruth. There was one other Isom. He was African American and too old to fit. I also tried searching Isham, Ison and Isum with no results for the years indexed available to me for 1870-1920.

If you know he is the great-great grandfather, do you know the great grandfather's name? There are 5 Isom Chandlers indexed for the 1910 census, four of them of the age you mention. A couple are in Texas and couple easily have slipped over into OK. I'd be happy to look at the census if I had something more to identify Isom. Isom is probably a corruption of Isham, which was a popular name in the south. Even if he didn't spell it as Isham, some record keeper may have.

KY. in the 1880 census. She is listed as the dtr of H.M. Chandler, age 36, and wife Mary, age 38, with siblings Genoa, female, age 8, and (looks like) Kendall, male, age 13. The occupation of the father is given as "hosiery mill" it looks like. All family members are born in KY. Considering her age and the location, I tend to believe this is the Nevada in question. Another NEVADA CHANDLER is listed in the 1930 census for Morgan Co. Illinois. Just looking at the ages it could be the same one, 50 years later, except that it says she was born in Missouri, as well as her parents. This one is an inmate in the Jacksonville State hospital for the Insane, and it states she is single. I can find no information on Bluford except for the marriage info. I hope this helps, and wish I could find more for you. If you happen to run across IRICK CLAY CHANDLER, please let me know! I've been searching for the longest time! Good luck. Lois
