Hey, you guys on the Chandler list are GREAT! I was afraid that this might be another of those "dead" lists. But within only a couple of hours of my inquiry re William Chandler I had received 5 responses. I've been "down" for a couple of hours while an electrical storm passes through, and will reply to each of those who answered my request as soon as possible. Thanks. And it's now great to belong to a "live" list. Lou Poole

I'm new to this list and have been lurking for several days hoping to see some action on the list. Not having seen any in about a week, I'm just going to jump in, pose my question, and hope that some kind soul who is further along might have the information I seek. I am descended from the subject William Chandler through his daughter, Betty (Elizabeth), that married John LeGrand. (My lineage goes from LeGrand to Palmer to Greenwade to McCown -- almost a straight maternal one.) William Chandler's will, dated 9 Mar 1779, proved 20 May 1779, in Halifax County, VA, named wife Judith; sons Robert, William, Timothy, John, Frederick, and Shadrack; daughters Susanna Lax, Bettey LeGrand, Hannah Smallman, Keziah, and Mary Ann. I have received some information that William's roots are back in New Kent County, Va., and that his father was Robert Chandler (m. Elizabeth ____). From my limited research in primary records to date, I would have to conclude that Robert Chandler of New Kent was probably his grandfather, but not his father. Does anyone have information on this line of Chandlers that they are willing to share (or just some good pointers will do) on who might actually be the parents of William Chandler of Halifax County? And who his wife, Judith, might have been? Thanks for any help. Lou Poole, Richardson, TX ([email protected])

Are there any Chandlers out there with Iowa roots? -- Barb Chandler, TSSF [email protected] http://bounce.to/TheWriteStuff/
I have read that the name Chandler was an occupation on a ship. Nearly every ship had a chandler, a keeper who maintained and ordered the supplies for the ship. But looking in the dictionary, a chandler was one who made candles; or a trader; or a dealer. There were so many chandlers that I have given up trying to connect unrelated families. My mother-in-law was another one of these thousands of chandlers. But she was from Lynn, Mass. Her ancerstry seems to come from Quincy, MA
Would any of you Chandler's out there have any information regarding a John J. Chandler b. 1821 Mason Co. Kentucky. John married Sarah Angiline McGee and they had children; Mary J. b.abt 1847, Britty A. b.abt 1848 & John J. b. 1850. The 1821 John J. Chandler was the son of T.K. Chandler of Illinois. I am primarly interested in the son ,1850 John J. Chandler b. Kentucky. Replies to Dave Chandler - [email protected]
George Chandler was born 1791. He migrated with his family to Sullivan Township, Tioga county PA, possibly from Ohio. The area where he settled was called Chandlersburg and later became Elk Run. Daughter Sallie born 1824 married Charles Smith, I have a tin type of her and the lilac bush she brought with her still blooms every spring in front of her house in Sullivan township where great grandaughter Paulia Smith lived until her death in 1995. Sally Chandler's brother Horace married Charles Smith's sister Sally. Although none remain in the area with the Chandler name, many descendants remain there. I know nothing of the origin of this family and will be very appreciative of any leads. Joyce M. My great great grandfather, Joseph Thomas Chandler was born in Grainger Co., TN July 14, 1821. He married Amie Anne Sellers November 27, 1843 in Grainger Co. Joseph served in the Confederate Army from Grainger Co. He was wounded in the service. After the Civil War, he moved to Blount Co., TN where he died 17 Aug 1868 as a result of his war wounds. My branch of the family later moved to Johnson Co., AR. I am trying to find Joseph Thomas Chandler's parents. I have several suspects but do not have proof. I have researched the family for 35 years and would be pleased to trade information. Eldon J. Edgin in Dallas, Texas.
