Hello, everyone, I just signed on, and thought I'd post my Chandlers in hope of making a connection. My g-g-grandmother was Eliza Ann Chandler, born April 16, 1843 in SC. I'm not sure of the county, but I have seen references to Edgecombe and Edgefield. Her father was Thomas Chandler, mother unknown. Eliza married Robert Randolph Huddleston during the Civil War, and they later moved to Mecklenburg County, NC, where Eliza died in 1920. Her death certificate states that her father Thomas was born in Maryland. I know she had at least one sister, referred to as "Miss A.E." in a letter, and a brother named Charlie, who was killed in a wagon accident in Texas. And that's about all I know. I would greatly appreciate any leads or connections with this elusive group - Thanks so much! Ms. Jo Huddleston, Greensboro, NC Researching Billingsley, Bolling, Boyd, Capps, Cartwright, Cash, Cauble, Chandler, Coleman, Drennan, Dunning, Ford, For(r)ester, George, Hopson, Huddleston, Jacob, Lewis, Mangum, McDowell, McKay, Miller, Robertson, Rucker, Sanders, Satterfield, Sprigg, White, Wilkinson, and Wimberly in VA, TN, KY, SC and NC.
Hi, I'd love to subscribe to this list, can someone please send me instructions? Thanks so much - Ms. Jo Huddleston, Greensboro, NC Researching Billingsley, Bolling, Boyd, Capps, Cartwright, Cash, Cauble, Chandler, Coleman, Drennan, Dunning, Ford, For(r)ester, George, Hopson, Huddleston, Jacob, Lewis, Mangum, McDowell, McKay, Miller, Robertson, Rucker, Sanders, Satterfield, Sprigg, White, Wilkinson, and Wimberly in VA, TN, KY, SC and NC.
<< > << So please stop by for a visit >> >> Please forgive me for asking this non-genealogy related question. This was included in a recent message posted to the list. I am curious. Does anyone know what nbsp stands for. I have seen it before in other messages. I think it has something to do with how the original message is translated when it was e-mailed. Please e-mail me any answers rather than posting them. Thanks. Linda Arcadia, California
I am still not having any luck tracing my father's family. His father's name was Thomas Jerome Chandler and mother Olga Carswell. They were married in McRae, GA, in 1901. I am despately trying to find the name of his grandfather. Thomas and Olga had three children: Robert Carswell, Thomas Jerome, and Mary Will. I believe he might have died in Vicksburg, MS, in about 1915. In 1900 Thomas Jerome Chandler was in Ailey, GA,( Montgomery County) living alone at the ageof 24 so he was born in 1876. He probably had brothers or sisters....hopefully someone will recognize his name.
Dear List, I am looking for info on a Thomas Charles Chandler. He was a Dr. in the Civil War. He had a daughter named Barbara Ellen. I know that at one point he lived in Champain, Illinois. However, it is very possible that he is originally from Kentucky. I do know for a fact that he ended up in Arkansas, after the war. If anyone can offer any help i would really appreciate it. I did not keep the name of the subscriber who asked about Robert Chandler, Primitive Baptist preacher who lived near Chandler Spring in Kennamer's Cove. My notes indicate that he may have been born, not in VA, but in SC, though that is not a certainty. His wife was Nancy Mobley, born 1808-09 in SC, and his first five children were born in SC (Mary, Henry Isham, Martha, Elizabeth, and John), his sixth in GA (Elias M.), and the next two in AL (Susannah and George). Judging by birthdates, he apparently came to AL with his family from SC via GA about 1825 -26. He attended Mount Pisgah Baptist Church which was in Jackson co, AL, until Kennamer's Cove was added to Marshall Co., AL, in 1836, and, for a time, was a member of Union Primitive Baptist Church near Woodville in Jackson co. The Kennamer Family History contains material on several Chandler families. Carolyn

I am looking for information about Capt. John Chandler b. 1735, d.1799. He lived in Piermont, New Hampshire.
Searching for information on Sarah ("Sallie") Chandler born c1760 possibly in Sumter District South Carolina or Rowan County NC. Family tradition states she was the daughter of William Chandler. Sarah Chandler married a Mott of either Sumter District SC or Rowan County NC. Family tradition links the Mott and Chandler lines to NC but research lends more evidence to only SC. Sarah Chandler Mott had at least 2 children: 1. Stephen Mott b. c1800 married Mary __________. 2. Catherine Mott b. c1796 married Samuel Welch of Sumter Dist Any information would be greatly appreciated, Gene Welch, 419 Arbor Drive, Columbia, South Carolina 29206

He was my g.g.g. grandfather through his son, Samuel Nelson Chandler. I do have a great deal of information on the Norwood line. Actually have more on that line than the Chandlers. This research was given to me by Mr. Ray Chandler, Winnfield, LA. It shows Eleanor's father as Alexander McIntosh Norwood, son of John Norwood & Mary Warren. John Norwood was a captain in the Revolution. There is a wonderful book entitled "Capt. John Norwood and Mary Warren Norwood", by Mrs. John W. Norwood, Jr. & Charles S. Norwood published in 1979, Hilburn Printing Corp., Goldsboro, NC. It gives a tremendous amount of information about the Norwood line that has been traced back to Jordanus deSheppy (of the North Woods, hence the name Norwood) in the year 1066. There is a picture of the English manor house (Leckhampton Court) of William Norwood (our direct line ancestor b. 1545) in Gloucester, England near the town of Cheltenham. According to the book the ancient manor house is still in the Norwood family! There are also pictures of William Norwood and a picture of his tombstone. It really is a wonderful book and would be well worth trying to find a copy of it! I will email you privately with gedcom files of my Chandler & Norwood lines. Would love to get your info also. Thanks for responding, Peggy

Norwood. I myself have not done a lot of research on this line but do have some information. They had 14 children. Eleanor was his first wife, his second wife was Melissa Lawrence and they had one child. Most of what I have is on the Chandler line. I have nothing on the Norwood line. Eleanor died no later than 1867 and is buried inJackson Parish, LA. Do you have any information on the Norwood line? I am happy to share what I have with the Chandler line. Are you a descendant too? There is another person on this list that is tracing this line but I have not contacted him but once. Maybe you will have more luck than I did. Look forward to hearing from you. Tana Collis
Hi, Can anyone tell me anything about the marriage of James E. Chandler (b. 1814, Darlington Dist., SC, son of John Chandler) to Eleanor Norwood, daughter of Alexander McIntosh Norwood. I've been told that they were married but no source or substantiating evidence was given. James is shown in the 1850 Newton Co., MS census with a wife name Eleanor, but how was the connection to Norwood made??? Peggy

Sorry about posting a wrong message earlier. I ask for help on Zachariah Chandler and Hannah Chandler in 1850 Washington Co.,TN census. It should have been: David Chandler age 75 and wife Hannah Chandler age 75 I believe that Zachariah was a son living next door to them. There was also a 'Elkanah' on the same page. I'm not sure of the spelling. I would really appreciate any help at all on any of these names. Thanks.
