Susan, I have a lot of information concerning Jesse Chandler and his descendants to include wills and other documents. I also can track some of his descendants - particularly his son Moses. I have been trying to get past my stone wall which is a Thompson Chandler b. Feb. 11, 1811 somewhere in the area of SW VA around Patrick/Henry/Franklin Co. along the NC border. Thompson was married in Giles Co in 1831 and I have almost complete information on him and his descendants. I have strong indicators that he was the son of a William Chandler married in Patrick Co. in 1809. This William was probably the son of a William from Surry Co. NC. Now to Jesse- The reason I have a great amount of material is that in my efforts to find Thompson's ancestors, I analylized the census reports for all Chandlers in SW VA who were in a distance of Giles Co. (I originally thought Thompson was born there) to possibly have been his parents. Since he was born in 1811 I concentrated on the 1810 census and found there were only three possibilities and two of them were only remote possibilities. The Main possibility was Jesse Chandler of Franklin Co. I was lucky to find an excellent genealogist in Franklin Co and I paid her to research Jesse and family. I have a lot of material she uncovered - BUT - it served to prove that Jesse was not Thompson's father - even though Jesse's son Moses was living in Giles Co. during a number of years that Thompson was there. They were the only Chandlers in that Co. at that time and both were of an age to have been brothers. The information I have on Jesse is at variance with the information published by the Chandler Family Association. There notes have him living in that area and then moving to SC. This move did not happen, he can be tracked in Franklin Co for many years. Unless there were two Jesse's in the area (and that is possible, but no record of two being there at the same time has been found), then the SC Jesse could not be the same one as the Henry/Franklin Co. Jesse. This is all the time that I have to respond this morning. I will be happy to provide the data I have (at least part of it, there may be over 100 pages and some is not relevant). I will abstract this info and send it in a later message and if you want hard copy, please send your address. DO ANY OF YOU CHANDLERS on [email protected] web.com WANT THIS INFORMATION? If so send me an e-mail request. If there are enough of you, I will put it on roots web, otherwise I hate to clutter up the web and will send it individually. One more item, I think Jesse was 90 to 100 years old when he died. Tom Dr. H. I have traced my line back to a John CHANDLER, born 1789 in SC. He married Sarah UNKNOWN, born 1789 SC. He moved to MS and was in the 1830 Census of Simpson Co, MS. Three of their children were probably William 1807 SC, Jesse 1817 SC; and Joseph 1820 SC. If anyone thinks they MAY connect to this line, please contact me. This is one of my long standing road blocks. Fred (Woody) Hendrick [email protected] [email protected] http://woodlyn.net

This is what I sent Randy Treadway, which is being rejected. Can anyone help with a current e-mail address for Randy? Or, is anyone else out there looking at this line? -----Original Message----- From: David Chandler <[email protected]> To: Randy Treadway (Jack Chandler) <Randy Treadway (Jack Chandler)> Date: Sunday, November 22, 1998 6:25 PM Subject: Jack I was looking in the Madison County Heritage book and saw a reference to a Jack Chandler, but probably not mine. It was under an article about James Cecil Shelton born 1898 in Laurel Section of Madison, and his mother was Florence Chandler Shelton, daughter of Jack Chandler that lived near Red Hill Church. Is this your Jack Chandler? Are you interested in the article? Is this a nick-name for Andrew Jackson Chandler, or which there were several, or one of the many John Chandler's? Are you perhaps related to the John Wesley Chandler born 1825-26 that married Sarah Sams? That is my line. How are you related, if you are from this line?
Does anyone have an e-mail for Randy Treadway? He was tracing Jack Chandler's line in Madison County, NC. I keep getting mail returned.
I'm trying to identify the Richard Chandler that appears in the 1800 census of Buncombe County, NC, age between 16-26. He was the only Chandler in the County at that time. Richard appeared again in the 1810 Census of Buncombe Co, NC, age 26-45 (still), one other Chandler, John age 45 and older. There were the only two Chandler's in the county. Another John Chandler is recorded in Burke County age 26-45. (Probably North Cove, near Linnville). By 1820 Richard and John are no longer shown, but two female heads of household for Buncombe County are shown, Diana age 26-45 (near Joseph and Ezekiel) and Sarah age 26-45 (8 pages away in census). Buncombe County created in the 1790s. Before that, the region was Burke County, NC. -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] <[email protected]> To: [email protected] <[email protected]> Date: Wednesday, November 18, 1998 11:36 PM Subject: Re: Richard Chandler, VA & TN >David, > >Who is the Richard Chandler you are researching? Linda, Part of my family originally came from Virginia but I don't recognize the names. I have a few Robert Chandlers......one was born in 1775 in Virginia and died between 1850-1860 in Alabama. One was born April 30, 1653, York Virginia, died New Kent, Virginia, 1709.........One was born 1628 in Elizabeth City, Virginia, died 1668-1669 in Kent Virginia and the rest were born in England and later moved to Virginia. Let me know if any of this looks familiar. Have a great day, Kirk L. Scott I may be related th the Duxbury Chandlers also. I have an Enos Chandler that had a daughter Elizabeth Betsy Chandler who married Melatiah Dillingham. Not real sure if I have the correct Enos, but if I do this line will go back to George Soule and John Alden of the Mayflower. Hello; My name is Scott McIntyre, and I am descended from two apparently very distinct families of Chandlers from Massachusetts: two lines from William Chandler the Elder of Andover, Massachusetts, and one line from the (possibly Alden/Mayflower -related) Chandlers of Duxbury/Duxborough, Plymouth County, Massachusetts (line of Edmund Chandeleer/Chandelor of England, father of Joseph, who was father of Edmund Chandler, who was probably father of John Chandler of Duxbury by Elizabeth Alden, granddaughter of John Alden, daughter of Jonathan Alden). If anyone out there has these lines, please contact me at the above E-Mail address. Thank you very much! Scott McIntyre
Looking for information on Mary Olivia Chandler. She married William Gafford in Delta/Hopkins Co., Texas about 1867 and died about 1880. Some census show her born in TX and some in Ar. Thanks for any help. Mickey Woods
The Unknown County Query page is up and running for the State of Alabama. It is an USGENWeb project and only query for for the state of Alabama will be accepted. If your ancestors where in Alabama and you don't know which County to post a query to then this is the place go. There is a state site map provided for those who know the county to post to. I will be using the CCHelper program and that will give your queries maximum exposure to the Rootsweb community through Surname helper. You can go to <http://www.rootsweb.com/~alunknow/index.html> and fill out the form provided. Your queries and surnames will be posted as soon as possible. In the past two days there have been over two hundred hits to the page alone. I look forward to your post, Troy McCarley (Alabama's Unknown County Coordinator)
Hi ! All you Chandler's; I guess you have never heard this line before, but "I am searching for" my father's family. I have just confirmed that one of the things my father told me 20 years ago, was recorded on his marriage application and can now be used as a documented fact. Now to get down to the searching part of it, I need all those CHANDLER's with IOWA ties to help me out. Just to let you know that I am still in the dark, I am looking for a John J. OR a A. J. CHANDLER that lived in Iowa up thru 1900 and then moved to the state of Washington. My father JOSEPH B. CHANDLER b. 1899 may have been born in Iowa, instead of Washington as he always claimed. Of course this does not explain why I can't find Joseph in the 1910 Washington census, but it would be an explanation for the 1900 census. It is possible that the Joseph B. Chandler I found in Pacific Co. WA. in 1920 is my father, but the b. date is 1895 instead of 1899, and he is listed as being born in Illinois instead of Washington and his father is listed as being born in Indiana, instead of Iowa. But hey !, the mother is listed as born in Iowa, and this could mean that the person giving the information was just not sure of the correct answers. By the way, if anyone has excess to the 1920 Washington Federal census, what looks like Nahcottes Prescient, in Pacific County, sheet 8-B line 206. I need an interputation as to what his employment was. I can read reading, but I can't read writing. Any Chandler Iowa ties contact; Dave Chandler [email protected]
We are in the middle of a move and will suspend service from Olynet as of Nov 1. For any of you still using that addy please change it to [email protected] Thanks, Steve & Patricia
Does anyone have any information on a Josiah Chandler that was probaby in Ky around 1815-1821 and moved to Ark.? I am searching for an Elizabeth Chandler b.(1812 one record 1821 another) in Ky per 1850 census. She married 1842 in Sevier Co., Ark. to John P. Hall b. 1816 SC. They then moved to Texas where she dies abt 1856 as does a sister Irene Chandler, that married Alfred Polk. Believe they also had bro. Samuel G. Chandler that went back to Sevier Co.Ark. Does anyone have access to the following publications: Data Diggers, Vol 2, Issue 11, Mar 93: An article about Richard Chandler C1765-1834, VA & TN Montgomery Co Genealogical Journal, Vol 10, Issue 3, Mar 81: An epitaph for Richard Chandler, 1801 Both publications are available at Allen Co (Fort Wayne, Indiana) Public Library, but as I am in NC I'm hoping someone will have already gleaned this data. I have tried getting materials before from this library, after a 3-week wait I finally got a form to fill out, and it has been two months since I sent the form (for a different item) and my $7 to them.
