Chamberlin and Roxannah Covell, 19 Apr 1837, Dana, Worcester, MA. Their children can be found listed in census data. The 1850 Census lists the following two families living in the same dwelling: - 1850 Census, Dana, Worcester Co., MA, William N. Chamberlin, p. 325, #14/21, 26 Aug 1850, age 33, teamster, b. MA; Roxana, age 31, b. MA; Alphonzo, age 7, school, b. MA; Elmer W., age 1, b. MA - 1850 Census, Dana, Worcester Co., MA, p. 324, #14/20, 24-26 Aug 1850, Amasa Chamberlin, age 53, laborer, b. MA; Sarah C., age 46, b. MA; Laura E., age 21, b. MA; Charles S., age 18, farmer, school, b. MA; George W., age 16, farmer, school, b. MA; Harriet E., age 12, school, b. MA; Mary Jane, age 8, school, b. MA; Henry A., age 6, school, b. MA; Harden M., age 3, b. MA Note that these two families live in the same dwelling. The 1860 Census lists the following for William: - 1860 Census, Westfield, Hampden Co., MA, William N. Chamberlain, p. 844, #232/304, 7 Jun 1860, age 40, piano leg factory?, $150, b. MA; Abby, age 34, b. MA; Frank W, age 18, piano leg factory?, b. MA; Elmer W., age 11, attends school, b. MA; Ella I?, age 3, b. MA; John F., age 33, piano leg factory?, b. MA; also, @ #232/305; Edward Whitney, age 24, piano leg factory?, b. MA; Fanny L. Whitney, age 16, b. MA The 1870 Census lists the following for William: - 1870 Census, Westfield, Hampden Co., MA, Wm. Chamberlin, p. 367, #98/107, 7 Jun 1870, age 51, policeman, $300/$200, b. MA, U. S. Citizen; Abbie, age 44, keeping house, b. MA; Franklin, age 27, work in high school, b. MA, U. S. Citizen; Jennie, age 22, at home, b. MA; Elmer, age 21, at home, b. MA, U. S. Citizen; Emma, age 19, house keeping, b. MA; Ella, age 13, attending school, b. MA; also Mary Lattson?, age 32, housekeeping, b. ENG, parents of foreign birth; Bruce Lattson?, age 8, mulatto?, attending school, b. MA, mother of foreign birth So, you can see that William N. is very likely a son of Amasa [a fact which was previously completely unknown], and Ella is a daughter of William N., either by his wife Roxana, or by his next wife Abbie (further research in birth, marriage and death records in Massachusetts should permit you to determine which). William N. was born about 1819, probably Petersham, Worcester Co., MA. Based on the above census data, he is almost certainly the son of Amasa(7) Chamberlain, b. 14 Aug 1796, Petersham, Worcester Co., MA, d. after 1870, prob. Westfield, Hampden Co., MA, and his first wife Sylvia Skinner, b. c1798, d. bef. 1823, whom he married 11 Nov 1818, Dana, Worcester Co., MA. Amasa married 2nd) Sarah C. Gleason, 8 Mar 1823, in Petersham, with 9 children listed for them. The ancestral line of descent is listed as: Amasa(7), Samuel(6, Samuel(5), Samuel(4), John(3), John(2), William(1) Chamberlain. For your future reference, Amasa(7) is identified as LN9443 in the lineages of the Chamberlain/lin genealogist, David Conrad Chamberlin, Sr., who has prepared formal Family Group Records (FGRs) containing considerable information, for each generation on back to William(1) Chamberlain of Woburn & Billerica, MA, who was one of the five earliest immigrant Chamberlain ancestors in New England in the early 1600s.
