    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: jparker194 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.chamberlin/432.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: For the benefit of other readers, this is Martha "Patty" Howe, born about 1756 (actual year, place & parents unknown), who was married c1776, perhaps Westmoreland, Cheshire Co., NH, to Ebenezer(6) Chamberlain [Henry(5), Henry(4), Henry(3), Henry(2), Henry(1)]. At about the time of his marriage, Ebenezer enlisted in 1775, prob. at Westmoreland, NH, and again in 1776, and was at the battle of Bunker Hill with his brother Henry, 17 Jun 1775. He applied for a pension [#39299] in 1818 at Potsdam, St. Lawrence Co., NY. Ebenezer lived his last years with his daughter Lois, wife of John Fish, in North Sheldon, Franklin Co., VT, where he died 5 Jan 1843, and where I believe he is buried. 10 children were believed to have been born beginning c1777 in Westmoreland, NH (some are recorded there beginning 17 Dec 1780). Ebenezer was listed with his wife & children at Chittenden Co., VT in 1790 and again in 1800, but he has not been located in the 1810, 1820 or 1830 census, during part! of which time, at least, he was probably living with one of his children in the vicinity of Knowlton, Brome Co., Quebec. So, his wife Patty evidently died sometime after 1800, probably in either Burlington, Chittenden Co., VT, or in Brome Co., Quebec. Evidently she is not buried with her husband. Regarding your speculation concerning Martha "Patty"'s parents, this is indeed an intelligent guess, I agree, because of the match of names you've come up with. I see in Ancestry.com and elsewhere, several lineages for the family of Edward & Lois (Maynard) Hose, of Rutland, Worcester Co., MA, who had numerous children, including Martha, b. 5 Feb 1757, there in Rutland. These children were born through c1773 there in Rutland, then I can't determine what happened to Ebenezer and his family after that. The obvious question is where were they living in the 1775-1776 period of time, which should determine where their daughter Martha was married, most likely. Chamberlain genealogists, as you are probably aware, have assumed that Ebenezer Ch'n and Martha "Patty" Howe were married there in Westmoreland, Cheshire Co., NH, but this appears to be just a guess on their part, unless Ebenezer's pension records state where he was married, which is possible. I'll have to leave it to you to check out all available records in these locations, to see whether you can come up with a marriage record, or at least the location of the marriage. From what I see here, DAR records do not provide much information about her. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
