    1. [CHAMBERLIN] James Chamberlain b. 9 Nov 1801, Augusta, ME
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/AUI.2ACIB/156.1 Message Board Post: The ancestry of John Chamberlain of Hallowell, Kennebec Co., ME, who m. Mary Brown, has been traced [Samuel(4), William(3,2,1) ]. The only record of their children that I've seen is an LDS Ancestral File record (Mornon online Family Search listing) that lists 4 children (not all named), including one named James, born 9 Nov 1801, in Augusta, ME, who died the next day. This matches the birth data for your James Chamberlain. I'd appreciate knowing your source for the information that your James was born 9 Nov 1801 in Augusta, Kennebec Co., ME, and that he was the son of these parents, and that he is the same James who married Mary Peterson as you listed it, so I can attempt to clear up this inconsistency.

    1. [CHAMBERLIN] Two Lorenzo Chamberlins Confused
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/AUI.2ACIB/98.102.103.2 Message Board Post: There is evident confusion in many records between two Lorenzo Chamberlins, both born about 1810. The Lorenzo Dow Chamberlin, b. c1810, NY (per 1860 Census), who m. Mrs. Susan (-?-) Wilcher/Welcher, 26 Mar 1833, Jackson Co., MO, is listed with his wife and children in 1850 & 1860 Census records in Tazewell Co., IL. He is listed with wife Lydia, age 38, in 1850 (and several children, but birth places not shown for anyone), then with wife Susan, age 45, in 1860, which suggests confusion in their names (possible error in the Census), or possibly a polygamous marriage. There is also confusion in the records regarding his childrens' names & dates. The parents of this Lorenzo are unknown. Lorenzo Chamberlin, b. 27 Jul 1810, Pomfret, Windsor Co., VT, is 1 of 8 children recorded for Lemuel & Rebecca (Dunham) Chamberlin [Lemuel's ancestry has been traced back to Henry(1)]. Lorenzo is listed as a farmer, age 39, b. VT, living with his parents there in the 1850 Census, and a Lorenzo Chamberlin is listed again there in 1860 (data not seen), presumed to be the same person. I don't have any more information on this Lorenzo. Obviously, these cannot be the same persons. There are several other Lorenzo D. Chamberlain/lins in my records, by the way. Your message also mentioned the Chamberlain Chain. Though no longer published, back issues can still be ordered from the Editor/Publisher, Carolyn Weidner [Email: weidnerc@worldnet.att.net ]. I have a copy of all 28 issues here, if you have any particular question concerning the contents.

    1. [CHAMBERLIN] Obed Chamberlin, b. c1790, of Chester Co., PA
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/AUI.2ACIB/162.1.1.1 Message Board Post: I've studied your postings with interest, and see that you've completed considerable research on this family. I agree that Obed Chamberlin and his three brothers must be descendants of Jonas(1) Chamberlain, perhaps the sons of one of his grandsons, likely either Gersham or Joshua, both of whom have large families with several sons born before 1800, per the 1800 Chester Co. Census. Joshua, for instance, appears to be the person listed in Sadsbury Twp., Lancaster Co. in 1810, 1830 and 1840, with William M(arsh) - Obed's brother - appearing there in 1840. A Jonas, age 50, appears there in 1850 also - I've not identified him. I'd be pleased to compare notes/data with you - please contact me via Email if you'd like. I maintain a file on this family on behalf of the World Chamberlain Genealogical Society.

    1. [CHAMBERLIN] Re: Chamberlins of Merrimack, NH
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/AUI.2ACIB/174.1 Message Board Post: John LN6791, Josiah LN6792, Thomas, Leonard, etc., are believed to be children of Josiah(5) LN6661 & Sarah (Henry) Chamberlain of Merrimack, Hillsborough Co., NH, as listed in the 1800 Census there, p. 576: 41110-01111. Evidently local records do not list their marriage, nor their children (Vital Records are missing, perhaps destroyed by fire, according to Prentiss Glazier). Josiah(5) was born c1740 according to one account - but this is not supported by the 1800 census data cited above which would indicate he was born after 1755. He evidently died in 1800, or thereabouts, in Merrimack, after the census was taken, so it is presumed that there were no more children than those suggested by this census record. Josiah(5) is known to be the son of Capt. John(4) LN6590 & Hannah (Farwell) Chamberlain [Samuel(3), Thomas(2), Thomas(1)], as you mentioned in your posting. Regarding the census data, it should be noted that Josiah(5) is one of 12 children, and his father died about May 1793. So it is likely that some of the older males & females listed are perhaps Josiah's neices and nephews. Josiah quite obviously has 4-6 sons, and 1-2 daughters, or more. One of these sons, in addition to the 4 listed above, may have been named Jonah, according to Prentiss Glazier; the names of the daughters are unknown. The LN #'s listed above are from the identification system in the lineages of the Chamberlain genealogist, David Conrad Chamberlin, Sr., who has also reviewed this family. Dr. Joseph Druse, also a genealogist and member of the World Chamberlain Genealogical Society, has also reviewed it, per his correspondence with Mr. James Cordy, one of my own recent correspondants. Another WCGS member, Laurel Gurnsey [Email: gurnsey@axionet.com ], contributed substantially to known information about this family and its descendants - perhaps you have corresponded with her. Sarah Henry is presumed to be the person listed in IGI records, b. 6 Jul 1766, Merrimack, daughter of John & Mary Henry, which, if correct, would suggest a marriage date for Sarah of c1785, which matches the census data rather well. So, although absolute proof may never be obtained, this is the highly probable lineage for this family. Perhaps a thorough search of land & probate records for Merrimack, NH (perhaps copies in State Archives or elsewhere?), could reveal more. Please contact me via Email if you wish to share information on this family in more detail.

    1. [CHAMBERLIN] Erastus Chamberlin, b. c1774 VT, m. Dorcas Follett
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/AUI.2ACIB/178.2 Message Board Post: I have not been able to identify this Erastus Chamberlin, but have listed the following data. He was married 12 Sep 1802, Thetford, Orange Co., VT, which might suggest his origins there, but several of his children, beginning Oct. 7, 1803, were born in Barton Twp., Orleans Co., VT, so obviously he was living there at that time. He appears in Census indices in Irasburg, Orleans Co., in 1820, together with George (probably his son), and then in 1830-50, but not before this time. There is a Clark Chamberlin listed in 1830 in Irasburgh, who might be related together with Samuel in Barton; Edmund & Samuel are listed in Barton in 1820, who might be related - I've not identified any of these 3 persons. Also, I do not have Orleans Co. Census listings before 1820, which would be helpful. There are several other Erastus Chamberlain/lins in my research files, listed in VT of this approximate age, but they have been traced. Erastus' death record has not been located, which, togeth! er with land & probate records (not yet made available), might reveal more. Dorcas died 11 Oct 1865, Coventry, Orleans Co., VT. Additional research is evidently required.

    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/AUI.2ACIB/187.1 Message Board Post: The earliest known record of William and his family is the 1840 Census for Springwater, Livingston Co., NY, which lists W. C. Chamberlin, p. 300. Also listed p. 300 is L. K. Chamberlin, who is actually Gen. Solomon K. Chamberlin, who came from Dalton, Berkshire Co., MA, and whose lineage has been traced {descendant of Henry(1) Chamberlin}, and who died in Springwater in 1859 (I have census listings for him from 1810-1850). Solomon's only known child was Eliphalet S. Chamberlain of Mount Morris, Livingston Co., NY. The great Chamberlain genealogist, Prentiss Glazier, stated that surely Solomon had more children, and one supposes that William Chauncey was one of them. Springwater was part of Ontario Co., NY in 1820, when Solomon K. Chamberlain was listed together with Anijah Chamberlain (unidentified) on p. 084. Please contact me via Email if you wish to discuss this family in greater detail, including the identity of two other persons known to be researching it, and reco! mmendations for additional research.
