    3. John, how about Jane Austin McCurtain? She was the wife of Chief Jackson McCurtain. According to Dr. Anna Lewis, in the "Chronicles of Oklahoma", "Mrs.. McCurtain was a most striking example of an Indian woman who assimilated the education and civilization of the whites, and , at the same time, retained the hereditary instincts of her own race and an interest in them. She loved her people and their history, yet she worked for their education and assimilation with the whites. She knew the time was near when the two races would have to live together and she worked to that end". -----Original Message----- From: John & Arla Williams <[email protected]> To: [email protected] <[email protected]> Date: Monday, June 05, 2000 10:42 AM Subject: [CHAHTA] Choctaw Woman needed > I need the story of a Choctaw woman who was a strong woman and helped her people. > I have a friend who has a web page and asked if I would find a story of a Choctaw Woman to put on her Indian Woman Site. >Arla > > >==== CHAHTA Mailing List ==== > To subscribe to CHOCTAW-SOUTHEAST-L: >Send msg. to [email protected] >Put "one" word in "body" of message:...
