    3. Wonderful! That's what I was thinking about under the dots, but I couldn't figure it out for sure. I couldn't tell from Theresa's picture if the dots were paint or leather or what? The ones I've made so far are the flat fan handle like a paint brush type. I have some handles that my husband cut for me, but they look more like a V shape. He cut them out of 3/4" plywood, but I like the flat paint brush type better. Then I wrap it in buckskin, and bead it. I've been using mine for several years, and haven't gotten around to beading the handle yet. I knew it was going to be harder to bead with the feathers already in, but I needed it that day. Here's one that I made out of slate grey turkey feathers. I uploaded a picture so everyone could see if they want to. Rootsweb won't let any type of attachments come through the mail list. http://freepages.cultures.rootsweb.com/~twineagl/fan.jpg I would love to see a picture! I had almost rather do beadwork, than eat. Well, for sure, rather than "cook". <G> Thank you Markie At 12:41 AM 06/01/2000 -0700, you wrote: >I can help you with the fan. 3. Markie, An old lady at the Houston Tia P'iah Society pow-wow told me some years back that a fan should just contain enough feathers to move air! I thought that sort of said it all. LOL. If it moves air it's a good fan. 3. Debrale, LOL... I AGREE! Believe me, the fans were moving lots of air at the Marksville, La. pow wow! It had rained that morning, and the humidity was like walking through syrup! During the grand entry, when everyone stops and turns towards the drum for the honor song... I looked around and every person in the circle had their fans just a fanning!! I don't remember seeing every person "at once" fanning like that before. Everyone kept sweating, but it felt good there for a little bit. <G> I'm all for moving the air! 3. Halito, The fan is beautiful. I want to make one soo bad, but I have no idea where to start. I have some leather staps and some larger pieces, I can do loom beadwork (as a beginner).....just not sure what feathers to use, how many and how to actually assembly them. Can someone give me detailed instruction on what I need to do or just an idea of what I need to do first. If I can get these made how I like them, them I might be able to get those NICE feathers that I am in processes of asking for and make some really nice fans. Those will move some air I'm sure!!. I was wanting to learn to make these fans and had told Neal I would make him one, but he left us before I got one made, but the first one that would suit him will be his. Anyway, info would be nice....and if any of you wonderful fan makers would want to help some of us others learn or get us started making fans let us know. We'll gather our goodies and meet you somewhere at the festival and have a mini-fancourse. Anyone interested in doing that? It might get me more inspired and fired up about getting the apron dress done. I might be a dancer someday. I've only danced about 3 times in my life, and I love it dearly. I'm just sure that I'm not good at it and need more experience. So, anyone interested in leading me though anything, I'm willing to follow. Yokoke, Shelley (Hishi ohoyo)
