It was in a fancy font or HTML format. Rootsweb will only allow "plain text" to go through the list. You have to go to your e-mail program and turn off the ``Post in HTML'' or ``Enriched Text'' features of your mail program. I don't know how to do this, but that's what you have to do. ??? I use Eudora Light for my mail program. Your message came to me in HTML format, like you would put on a web page. I deleted everything except your message, and forwarded it to the list. <G> I have been meaning to write to you privately, but thought it might be interesting for everyone here also. I want to make a traditional Choctaw dance fan. I have printed out the picture of your daughters that you sent to me, but for the life of me, I can't figure out what is connected to what? I got some more turkey tail feathers... heehee.. I was wanting to know if the bottom of the quils are wrapped before placing them into the handle or what is done to them before putting them into the handle? I can see the white dots on each feather, but not sure what that is? Paint? Leather? Then it looks like a fluff or something coming from under the white dot? Can you look at it and describe how it is put together for me? Pleaseeee... :) I counted the feathers, and was wonderning if it contains a certain amount of them, or does that matter? I'm working on one of my grand daughters new fan now. I have about one inch left on the beadwork and the handle will be finished! Then I'm putting Scarlett Macaw feathers in it, to match her new Jingle dress I promised her!! That will be one fan down, and three more to go. These grand daughters are keeping me hopping!! haha When we went to the Marksville La. Pow Wow the other day, Taylor, who is 5, had her Turkey feather fan that she has been using since she was 3. The poor feathers are mutilated from her chewing on them or twisting them up. It's really pitiful, cause she's put it through a lot. She came running to me about to cry, saying... "Grandma.. that little girl told me my fan was ugly"!! I promised her a new one, cause I think she is old enough now to take care of it..... this is the first time she "knew" it was in bad shape! <G> The web page address is: http://freepages.cultures.rootsweb.com/~choctaw/ Thank you, Markie At 11:53 PM 05/31/2000 -0700, you wrote: >Yakoke, >what did I do wrong? I can help you with the fan. Usually the dots are a piece of felt that may hold on another decoration, like a smaller feather or a horsehair. What you do with the ends of the feathers depends on what kind of handle you are making. Is it round or more like a paintbrush handle, or is it just wrapped? Can you send me a scan of what you are doing? I do quite a lot of beading. I will send you a picture if you like. *********** REPLY SEPARATOR *********** On 6/1/00 at 2:32 AM Markie wrote: >It was in a fancy font or HTML format.
