Build a fire with some dry cedar and pine knots...the smoke helps keep skeeters away...or you can try putting vinegar on your clothes...I have done that to keep the biting flies and skeeters off when I was mowing...or there's the good old Vicks Salve you can smear around...I use that to keep wasps from building nests right over my doorway and ants out of hummer feeders...they really don't like the menthol...
