    3. After the Civil War, when the army could turn its full attention to "the Indian problem" Generals Sherman (and the man's middle name was Tecumseh!) and Sheridan did the same thing. Their idea or their superiors? Does it really matter? Still later, Sheridan became an Indian agent out here on the Grande Ronde Rez. Believe it or not, the Indians said he was a very good agent. Seems the man was just really good at following whatever orders he was given.
