Question - I have my CDIB but I'm only 1/32 Choctaw. I never know what to put on application - caucasion or NA. I'm new at this - tribal name? Also, I never was in the 1990 census, what do I do if they miss me again?
Please answer the census as OKLAHOMA Choctaw for your whole family. It is my understanding from our last Chief that if you only put Choctaw it goes to Mississippi. you must specify Oklahoma. To fill out an application or birth cert. for a new baby no one can tell you what to do. Your heart must tell you. If you love your Choctaw heritage and are proud and live your life Choctaw, by all means put that you are Choctaw Indian. Otherwise, if your heart tells you it is sorta cool to be Choctaw but your heart and mind say that you are white. The answer is clear. Remember weather you are full blood or another degree, when you claim your heritage, that makes the numbers go up on NA for federal information. Tribes get their funding for medical, etc. on the number of NA people. So regardless of your degree you are helping your people when you claim her birth right.
