Thanks for the opportunity to tell about this wonderful event. I have volunteered to work all 3 days all day long - this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for me to be a part of something so big and so special. The Birmingham International Festival (BIF) is the longest-running festival of its kind in the US, and it saved a salute to Native Americans for its 50th anniversary. (Last year the festival saluted Greece, before that was Brazil, etc.) I understand this year's event is surpassing all previous years in advance ticket sales, and may well prove to be the most popular and most successful festival to date. Rather than write a lengthy message, please check out their website at www.bifsalutes.org. Birmingham, AL, is easily accessible from MS, GA, TN, FL, LA, SC, NC ...... so come on down and join us. Hope to see you there ----------- Robin

I want to see Billy too!! Carolyn
Sure Robin, We would love to hear about the festival. I met Dana Tiger at a Pow 'Wow once. I love her drawings. I bought some book marks from her, and she gave me permission to use her drawings for web page backgrounds. :) This forum is to talk about anything. Well most anything! <G> Markie At 07:52 AM 03/26/2000 -0600, you wrote: >Hello to all. Hi, My Great Grandfather Frank (Francis) M. Stone died in his mid fifties in his home in Garvin, McCurtain County, Oklahoma (October 25, 1909) from mylaria. It is say that his grave has a Woodsmen of the World Monument marking his resting place. Now, I have never heard of a W.O.W. Monument before. Could someone explain this marker? Is it a Insurance policy or what? Of course my next question is how do I get in touch with the Organization and learn what information that would be in his packet? Thanks Ellen
Hello to all. I want to tell everyone about the Birmingham International Festival Salute to Native Americans. Rita Coolidge, Lakota Sioux Dance Theater, Dana Tiger ... will be there. But first, I want to know if it's okay, or would it be considered inappropriate for this forum? ---- Robin
Hi Fay, This is Mama Hen as Markie so aptly puts it. I know that your life is built around the Choctaw lists and the people on them. That's what it's all about! The give and the take of so many friends is good. Just let the ladies and the gendlemen of the Choctaw and other lists baby you a little more and let you know how they feel about you! And d d d dats for Maarkkkieee too! LOL We need that side of love too! It's called the giving side and you ladies are not the only ones that need to do all of that. And, girl sit back and enjoy! It's your due! Help keep us the whole people that we are today. So welcome back, your turn to give again will come shortly!!!!! Don't get too tire by staying on the net to long at a time. Love Ellen
Hi Sherri, and all members that wish to help Markie and the Twin Eagles celebrate with their pow wow. http://freepages.cultures.rootsweb.com/~twineagl/is the url all times, events, times, and etc. will be on the Twin Eagle home pages. Hello to the list out there. Markie has not deserted all of us but has had a mountain of work and problems beyond her control dumped on her shoulders. As soon as their local pow wow is over and nobody else dumps their job on her, she will be back.<G> Sure hope that she doesn't ruin her health in the mean time! So now the message is out about Markie. I will post what Markie told me about Fay! I got a msg. from Fay's daughter and Fay is having a really rough time right now. She has big health problems, several years ago she had blood clots in her legs, and it caused all kinds of trouble for her. Her daughter told me that she was going to have surgery last Friday, and they were going to put stints in her legs because of the blood clots in them. The way Fay has written to me in the past, she said something about because of her health problems the dr's said she may not live but about 5 or so years. She said that is why she wants to get everything online as fast as she could before she was unable to do anything. I sure hope she is OK... I haven't heard from her daughter since Friday, so don't know if she is doing ok or what. I'm really worried about her. Now my suggestion is for all of us to take 5 minutes and think about Fay whether you care to pray or not. Just think good thoughts for Fay starting at 10 am tomorrow morning. If you want to pray then pray if not how about some positive thoughts for a lady that has been a friend to all on the list. She scanned all the Armstrong Roll off and sent them to Markie before she went into the hospital. I sure all of us can manage 5 minutes wherever we are. So I belief that three cheers to both our friend on and off the lists is in order. We love you Fay and Markie!!! Ellen

Hi Everybody.. Well we have a new project under way. This was Fay's idea! Huh Fay? LOL.... Anyway I think it is a good one. Here's the deal. I have started a "Family Group Sheet" project for our web page. This is something that not only will help all of us, but others out there researching as well. Below you will find the instructions for submitting your Choctaw family group sheets. They will be searchable by a Surname Index page. Each persons name and e-mail address will be on each group sheet as the submitter. Making it easy to make contact with others searching your family line. You may need to print this message out to have the instructions in front of you. Or they are on the sample page. which is linked "from" the home page. If you would like to view the sample page, visit: http://freepages.cultures.rootsweb.com/~choctaw/blankfg.htm These online pages will be in the large format to make it easier for the ones who have trouble reading web pages due to their eye sight. BUT... at the top of each page there will be a link to the "text" file, which you can click your mouse on to view, and PRINT it out. ******************************************************************* Instructions to submit your Family Group Sheets. By using your genealogy computer program, do ONE group sheet at a time. Save it as ASCII TEXT. You can then open this file in your word processor, or Note Pad. Copy and Paste the whole thing, placing it into an E-mail message to me, Markie <[email protected]>. Place "GROUP SHEET" in the subject line. You are also welcome to attach the group sheet as a seperate file to the e-mail message. Please include a notation or star by the name of the person who is... CHOCTAW or...NAME WHO IS FROM A DIFFERENT TRIBE, listing tribal name... Cherokee.. Creek.... etc. Example: Husband: John Doe..."Choctaw". Wife: Jane Doe.. "Cherokee". or...THOUGHT TO BE NATIVE AMERICAN by oral history. These notations will be very useful to anyone who will research your family group sheet. Please include as many sources and documentation as possible. This page is an example, and the actual group sheet of your family will include as many children as you have. Which will be on your family group sheet page. >From the Front page of our web site, there will be a link to The Group Sheet Index page, All Family group sheets will be linked from the Index page. ********************************************* As you send in your group sheets, I will be saving them in a special folder I made, just for these submissions. I probably won't have time to respond to each person at the time I receive it, but when you view the web page, and IF your's is not there, then please contact me again about yours. Thank you for being part of this very important Choctaw genealogy resource on the Internet. Thank you Markie
Halito Everyone. I have had several request for a "Lookup" page to be added to the Choctaw Web page. I am happy to add this page to the site, but need volunteers! <G> Anyone who has books, CD's, or any other material, and you are "willing" to do lookups for others, please email me "privately" with "LOOKUP" as the subject line...... listing the resources that you have.... I will make a web page, giving your name, e-mail address, and your resources. It doesn't matter if the same resource is listed more than once. The more the better.... you will receive email from all sorts of places asking for information. A lot of the people will be from our lists here, but there will be others who are just surfing and came across the web page. So be sure you would like to do this before you submit your name as a "lookup volunteer". <G> This works really well on our USGenWeb sites, and I think it will work very well on our site too! As soon as I can get the page online I will post the address to our lists, so everyone will know what is available. There will be a link from the front page also.. of course. <G> OH yeah... some people do not sign their messages as we usually know who we are, :) but for this page, please send me you "name" so I can put it as a working link to your email address. I don't see why we can't be just as good as a GenWeb site.... right? LOL Yakoke Thanks to all of you who volunteer for this type of project. Markie
