    2. When I made a dress for a friend, I could not find a pattern. If you look at some of the drawings of Norma Howard on her cards, you can figure it out easily. *********** REPLY SEPARATOR *********** On 6/4/00 at 11:06 AM [email protected] wrote: >I would love to have a dress pattern. 2. Shelly, I've never made a fan, just really want to. I'm starting my Choctaw dress next week, wish me luck. Don't see how anyone can make a dress without a pattern. Have a sewing friend who will help me. Look forward to meeting some of the people on this site.If someone can let us know what we need, meeting place , etc. This is my first Labor day Festival. Can't wait// can't forget a name tag of some kind. This is getting more exciting all the time. Barbara

    2. Shelly, I will be at the Labor day festival in OK. Is that where you want to get together to make fans? I'm very interested, also do a little beadwork. Let me know when details are done. Oops, guess this isn't genealogy,,, Barbara

    3. Barbara, I do believe this is the right list to discuss this type of thing...I think it's one of the others that is geneology only...I just forget which is which sometimes. You wanna teach the class? Or does anyone know anyone who would be willing to teach us fan making? We could post a list of materials and everyone bring your own materials and all get together at a certain place at a certain time and see what we can get done. May I suggest a room in the Capitol building with some AC? :) Now that would be a nice. Anyway, lets see who all would be interested and if anyone is willing to teach and give us a list of things we need to have with us and go from there. Everyone chime in here.......................... 1. [CHAHTA] Homma cemetery or Homer Chapel cemetery
    2. Has anyone heard of a Homma cemetery east of Hugo, Oklahoma or, perhaps, a Homer chapel cemetery? We spent most of Memorial Day driving around per instructions from a local funeral home and did not find the Homma cemetery. I saw a reference to Homer chapel cemetery at some website and cannot remember where I saw it. I do remember that the cemetery was in Choctaw County Oklahoma. My thinking is that, maybe, just maybe, Homer Chapel cemetery is the "other" name the Hommas were known by and could, indeed, be the Homer/Homma cemetery. Thanks for any help. Carolyn McLemore

    2. I know of a burial ground 2 1/2 miles southeast of Eagletown that has Simon Homer and his son AS Homer, also John Homer and Wallace Homer. It is said to be located on the old Dyer plantation. *********** REPLY SEPARATOR *********** On 6/3/00 at 8:09 PM [email protected] wrote: >Has anyone heard of a Homma cemetery east of Hugo, Oklahoma or, perhaps, a >Homer chapel cemetery? 3. Halito, The fan is beautiful. I want to make one soo bad, but I have no idea where to start. I have some leather staps and some larger pieces, I can do loom beadwork (as a beginner).....just not sure what feathers to use, how many and how to actually assembly them. Can someone give me detailed instruction on what I need to do or just an idea of what I need to do first. If I can get these made how I like them, them I might be able to get those NICE feathers that I am in processes of asking for and make some really nice fans. Those will move some air I'm sure!!. I was wanting to learn to make these fans and had told Neal I would make him one, but he left us before I got one made, but the first one that would suit him will be his. Anyway, info would be nice....and if any of you wonderful fan makers would want to help some of us others learn or get us started making fans let us know. We'll gather our goodies and meet you somewhere at the festival and have a mini-fancourse. Anyone interested in doing that? It might get me more inspired and fired up about getting the apron dress done. I might be a dancer someday. I've only danced about 3 times in my life, and I love it dearly. I'm just sure that I'm not good at it and need more experience. So, anyone interested in leading me though anything, I'm willing to follow. Yokoke, Shelley (Hishi ohoyo)

    3. Halito!!!!!!! I for one am already starting to get anxious for this Labor Day Festival to get here. I had a wonderful time last year (my first chance to go). I really, really hope to see all the dancing I can see, and soak up all the culture and traditions I can that weekend. Seems that's what I always want anyway. One of these days when my life slows down, I'm gonna make an apron dress, and start dancing. Anyone wanna be my teacher? :) I'm anxiously awaiting the schedule of events for the weekend and the husband and kids have started asking too. We'll be there, maybe just us and a sleeping bag or two, but we'll be there. (fingers crossed) I plan to be there by Friday morning and stay until Monday afternoon sometime...have to be home and have the kids back to school by Tues. Keep me posted on any plans to get together, I'd love to me you all so we'll have faces to go with names. Yokoke Shelley

    2. No one can ever convince me that memories and just a sense of how things are supposed to be, aren't passed down genetically. I made a fan about 2 years ago and chose turkey feathers and used buckskin to wrap around it. I have done little beading yet on it. I used 7 feathers. I have never heard of (until now) a Choctaw dance fan. I would love to see pictures of others who have made them. Yakoke. Vera
