    3. I hope you don't mind if I but in here, but maybe I can give some information. I know that this is not fair, but it is the way it is. The CDIB stands for " Certificate of Degree of Indian Blood" and is given by the US Department of the Interior Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA) Only people who have a CDIB cards can become members of the tribe. Only people who can prove "Direct" descendant from a ancestor who enrolled on the "Dawes Rolls' can get a CDIB card. Even if your ancestor was on rolls taken before the Dawes, but did not enroll on the Dawes, you will not be eligible. You must prove "Direct" descendant. Your Direct ancestor must have enrolled on the Dawes Rolls Example: A full blood Choctaw man has two sons, but this Choctaw man dies before being enrolled on the Dawes. One of his sons (1) proves his Choctaw blood and is enrolled on the Dawes. The other son(2) for what ever reason (see below) does not, and is not enrolled. The descendants of son (1) if they can prove their ancestor was son (1) will be eligible for CDIB cards and tribal membership. The descendants of son (2) will not be eligible for a CRIB card and tribal membership, even if they can prove a connection to the first son and the father. REQUIREMENTS FOR ENROLLMENT 1. Applications had to be submitted during the enrollment period (1899 to 1906) 2. Membership by blood, intermarriage, or adoption into the Tribe 3. Actual residence within the area occupied by the Tribe Persons born after March 4, 1906 were not eligible for enrollment Congress closed the rolls as of March 4, 1907 In a lot of cases people of Indian blood were excluded from the rolls because they did not meet the residency requirements. Some chose not to be included because of the social stigma attached to being Indian at that time. I hope this has help with your understanding of what a CDIB card is and who can get one. As you can see it does not prove who is and who is not Choctaw. Both sons are Choctaw, and the descendants of both have a ancestor who was full blood Choctaw and should be proud of there Choctaw heritage. 3. Hi Sue, Thanks for your note. I am not familiar with the CDIB cards. Can you give me more info. on this? My gggrandfather was Choctaw ,but he did not go to OK. with his father{ white-mother Choctaw. From his estate papers and a relative we learned about all of his family ,except him and a brother, going to OK. A niece of his went out abt. 1907 and proved her connection. Through the estate papers we can prove she was his niece. This is all the proof we have at the present that he was the son of Daniel Anderson. Is that enough to get any kind of papers. I would appreciate any help you can give. 3. Sue GREAT NEWS! One thing that comes to my heart is for Choctaw people to remember you are Choctaw not any of the other tribes that have "fancier" regalia. Until you can get your traditional Choctaw dress, as long as you wear a shawl you can go out on intertribal dancing. To go on grand entry etc. you need your tribal regalia. But to wear another tribes clothes you would have to get permission from an elder of that tribe and have them adopt you into thier tribe. Hey your not tooo far from California, we have people who come to our annual gathering from Oregon and Wash. Visit our web for more information www.oklachahta.org our send us your address and/or email and we will put you on mailing list. Theresa Harrison, Liaison Okla Chahta Clan of CA., Inc. 1. [CHAHTA] Fay is Home!
    2. Markie
    3. I wanted to let everyone know that I have heard from Fay, and she is home after her surgery. She had a by-pass in one of the arteries in her stomach for her leg. She said it would be a slow recovery, and could only sit for 10 or 15 min. a day. But thank God, she is going to be back with us. <VBS> I have been having major computer problems, and since I can't afford a new one.... haha... I'm getting ready to take this one down, reformat the hard drive, and bring it back up again.... soooo... I'll be back soon. (I hope) <G>. Take care, & blessings Markie

    2. Buddy England
    3. Amzi Robinson married 'Emily Folsom, dau. of Nathaniel Folsom in Old Nation before emigration to New Choctaw Nation. They had three children that I have been able to account for: James, Calvin and Lucy Ann. Have been unable to trace Amzi's ancestors. Does any one have suggestions or information. 1. [CHAHTA] James Alexander Robinson
    2. Buddy England
    3. James Alexander Robinson, my grandfather, was born in 1859 in Blue Co. I.T. to James and Emeline Folsom Robinson. His first wife was Mary Riddle and following her death married Peal Lee Billlingsley, dau. of George M. and Amanda Jane Price. I have recently been reading about possibility of his having been involved in criminal activities before becoming U.S. Marshal (that is underproven) and Indian Law Official. Does anyone have information or suggestion? Fay Robinson [email protected]

    2. Jim Morrison, Jr.
    3. "Have I any apology to make for loving the Indians? The Indians have always loved me, and why should I not love the Indians? I love the people who have always made me welcome to the best they had. I love the people who are honest without law, who have no jails and no poor-houses. I love the people who keep the commandments without ever had read them or heard the preached from the pulpit. I love the people who never swear, who never take the name of God in vain. I love the people who love their neighbors as themselves. I love people who worship God without a Bible, for I believe that God loves them, too. I love a people whose religion is all the same and who are free from religious rows. I love a people who have never raised a hand against me or stolen my property, where there was no law to punish for either. I love a people who have never fought a battle with white men except on their own ground. I love and don't fear mankind where God has made and left them, for they are children. I love a people who live and keep what is their own without locks and keys. I love all people who do the best they can, and, Oh! how I love a people who don't live for the love of money."
