I'm trying to trace an ancestor who, according to church records, was fathered by a Chadwell in the late 1800s. I would really like to be able to compare y-DNA results with any Chadwell to see if we're really Chadwells. Since y-DNA usually is the same father - to son - to grandson, etc., it wouldn't matter if our common male ancestor were back in the Middle Ages - - a close match would just show whether or not we're Chadwells.
