The upgrade process from the older Ver 2 to Ver 3 (whether the old version was 16 or 32 bit) will always be easiest and cleanest through the Import Ver 2 which is already functioning in Ver 3. The only problem then lies in the transfer of data from Ver 3 back to Ver 2 - which would necessitate GEDCOM. The Ver 2 database structure has remained the same from Ver 2.00 through 2.32 and will continue to remain the same. There were some forced date formatting changes along 2.08 and 2.11 that gave some people headaches - but that was due to theri not entering properly formatted dates. So any dataa transfer between a Ver 2.32 for Win 3.1 and a Ver 2.50 for Win95 is as simple as copying the database - in either direction - and will remain so. I will not change the database structure in any future Ver 2 releases. Hope this clarifies. The scenerio you speak of where you have Ver 3 on your main desktop and Ver 2.32 Win 3.1 on a laptop can work. Depending on the data you enter on the desktop, I am hoping my NEW Ver 3 merge will work easier and cleaner than the older Ver 2 merge database function. In this case when you come back from the trip you do a Ver 2 import to a NEW database and then MERGE that NEW database to the MAIN one.
