If you do NOT want any of the changes - ie, made changes like you did, then I suggest that you copy your saved STDEVENT.TPS and LANGUAGE.TPS from earlier versions AFTER the upgrade installation - rather than before. This will overwrite the master downloaded database with your own database. This works most of the time. However, it will not work for Ver 2.29 since I added a line for the new Fix Gender menu item in the LANGUAGE file and it will crash now with an older version of these files.
