Hi Everyone, I wondered if anyone else has had problems with importing CEDCOM files into CFTW? After examining a number of genealogy packages my partner and I were really impressed by the features offered by CFTW and thought it would be the best program available for our needs. However when we tried importing the GEDCOM file that we had generated using the package that we started with but now have "grown out of" (Expert Family Roots) we got a nasty surprise. Where only one parent of an individual was recorded in the GEDCOM file, CFTW put that one known parent as both mother AND father and also linked the lone parent to him/herself as spouse. Sorting out the problem proved very difficult as sometimes it happened that when I tried to remove the "phantom" parent CFTW responded by putting the child as its own parent and there seemed no way of deleting this link. We would like to think that we could trust my family history data to CFTW, but this problem has caused considerable concern, not to mention several hours of work to sort out.
