Since beta 1 took about 8 months to develop (because of my limited time) you can certainly expect long development times on the remaining features to be implement. (Sorry, but I only do this part-time.) An outline of the three major parts of the program is given below: 1.Editing Functions [Initial Completion in Beta 1] 2.Tools Import/ Export Utilities [Only CFT-Win Ver 2 Import complete in Beta 1.] Global Search, Relationships, Rebuild, Import/Export, etc. Selection Lists, Name Case, BookMark. [These tools completed in Beta 1] Database Tools: Backup, Restore, Split, Merge. 3.Printing and Publishing Various Reports RTF Publishing (Indexed Book) HTML (Web) Publishing Electronic Publishing (for sharing disks/ CDs with family) ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- Installation Instructions 1.Download the file above to a temporary directory on your hard drive. 2.Unzip the file, placing all contents in a NEW folder such as c:\cftw3. 3.Register the two OCX's: 1.Press Start, Run and enter: c:\cftw3\regsvr32 c:\cftw\vspell32.ocx 2.Press Start, Run and enter: c:\cftw3\regsvr32 c:\cftw\tx4ole.ocx You should get a message "successfully registered" after each register. If you already have CFT-Win Ver 2 with the spell checker successfully working you can skip the first step. 4.Place an icon on your desktop to run the new program. This can be done by right clicking the background on your computer. Go to New -> shortcut and enter the command line: c:\cftw3\cftw.exe and entering a name: CFT-Win BETA. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- New Features in Version 3 * Main Window now shows Family Group, Ancestors, Descendants and Story. * CFT-Win Database is now contained in a single file which can be located on any drive in any folder. * Database structure completely rewritten for faster lookups. Media, Places, Addresses, Misc Data, Sources, Documents can immediately display the names they are attached to. * Right Mouse-Click Popups, drag and drop to reorder children and events. * Names now sorted several way in NameSearch: by Surname, Multiple Surname, and Given Name. * Unlimited number of children per family and parents per child. * Notes (Documents, Individual and Event Notes) now have full word processing capability: underline, bold, italic, colors, font changes, etc. * Multi-media - can now attach photos, sound and video files to individuals and documents. * Two level Sources: A reference plus details. Actual source references may point to a Source Reference (such as a book), Source Detail (such as a specific page number) or Document. * Unlimited number of sources may be attached to any given event or individual. * UCC integration. Now any of the 10 Calendar dates in UCC can be entered into CFT-Win with sorting and date comparison in-tact even with various calendars in use! * New "Address" List is now kept seperate from "Place" List. * New WITNESS Event allows an event reference to another event. * Copy and paste events from one person to another. * Multi-Lingual capabilities. 1.Able to enter many other languages other than Western European (Latin-1). Now can also include: Eastern European, Greek, Cyrillic, Hindi, Gujarati, etc. 2.Use more than one language in a single database.
