Yes, the backup problem does occur only when the file name is the same as the one it is trying to overwrite. I suspect that only those who responded had any problem and that most people do not have a problem. I think I can solve the problem by deliberately deleting any existing backup file with the same name before over-writing the backup file itself. Thanks for your comments.
