1. New Users Read This !!!!! Correct Address for Sending Email to List (FROM LISTOWNER)
    2. George W. Durman
    3.
This is a message primarily to newbies. The past few days, many new
users of the 12 Lists I manage have been sending email to the incorrect
addresses. This means three things. One, your email does not arrive at
the List because error messages come directly to me. Two, you force
me to take the time to forward your email on to the proper List. Three,
I also have to compose another email back to the persons who used
the wrong addresses, informing them of the correct address. Folks,
I am just about to the point where I don't have time for all the dozens
of extra emails this generates each day. And please, no smart remarks
about "how I should get rid of some of the Lists if I don't have time to run
them". Every time I complain of extra work caused by users who don't
take the time to do things correctly, some smart Alec sends me an
email advising the above.

I started these Lists (except for AYLOR), have nursed them for several
years now, and am not about to give them up just because inconsiderate
users cause extra work. I foot the bill for these Lists, from contributions
to RootsWeb, to hardware and software and server costs.

I know it is confusing, having to use one address for subscribing, then
using another in order to paste mail; however, if everyone were to read
the Welcome Letter, there would be no problems. The correct address
for posting is at the very top of the Welcome Letter.

Here is the problem: The address for subscribing contains "-request".
New users send to that address, then when notified they have been
subscribed, immediately start posting, using that same address. Most
don't even take time to read the Welcome Letter; it just gets deleted.

Here are examples of the address for subscribing and UNSUBSCRIBING,
and the address for posting email to the Lists. Just substitute the cor-
rect identifier for the List you want where you see NAME below:

To Sub and Unsub:
NAME-L-request@rootsweb.com

To post email:
NAME-L@rootsweb.com

See the difference? "-request" means just what it says; it is a request
for something, in this case to be subscribed or unsubscribed.

Where it says NAME in the lines above, just substitute the proper
identifier. The identifiers for the Lists I run are: AYLOR, BROYLES,
CFT-WIN, CULLOP, DURMAN, GAROUTTE, LOVETTE, WILHITE,
WILKINSON, SURNAME-QUERY, and GERMANNA_COLONIES.

If there are ANY questions or comments, they do not belong here on this
List. Send them to me personally. My email address is in the FROM: line
in the headers above.

SgtGeorge
Listowner
