    1. Some suggestions for CFT

    3. First, a big hello to all CFT-WIN list subscribers... I recently had to insert a lot of new information into my family database (summer holidays are a good moment for searching around in our french "mairies" (city halls) and "archives départementales"). This lead me to a few improvement suggestions for CFT-Win (I currently use version 2.31) : -the date field should be wider. The problem arises when one tries to insert a date in the French Revolution Calendar (like "28 vendémiaire an XIII"). This is nearly impossible without making bad abreviations (such as "28 vd XIII")... A date field allowing up to 30 characters would solve this problem -A date conversion utility between all calendars could be included in the software. This is only a suggestion for a more friendly software, but not a very strong requirement, as many third party conversion utilities exist... I may find and give the source code for the Gregorian-French Revolutionary date conversion. -there should be a possibility to give more than one Source for a given event. For instance, I often know that Mr X is dead between two dates because I have a Source mentioning him alive for the first date and another source mentioning him deceased for the other date. I actually mention the second source in the Notes field, but would appreciate having the possibility to mention it in a Source List (and thus using the "Select Source" utility) Finally, I sometimes regret that the software is not fully translated (only menu items, but not dialog boxes). I don't know how is organised the source code (the ideal situation would be a fully separated resource file), but I think that a team of volunteers could translate in thir own language. If so, I would be glad to help for the french translation... Ira, and also CFT users, what do you think of this? Finally, I made a personal wish : CFT is the latest Windoze software I use. I maintain a 50Mb on my portable computer just for it... For many reasons (both technical and philosophical), I switched towards Open Source software and I use Linux for nearly all my computing activities (both professional and "recreational"). I would really appreciate a Linux/X-Window version of CFT....Maybe not an easy task, but dreaming is always allowed...:-). Would other people use such a version? --
