Christian I echo George's earlier comments - as a member of this list and having nothing whatsoever to do with it's excellent operation, I consider such comments totally inappropriate and unjustified, particularly when describing someone who we do not know, but who does an excellent job for no remuneration. Over the past two years I have received nothing but useful advice and help from both the Administrator and other members of this list, and I for one am more than willing to support them wherever I can. Rick (where the SMTP servers administrators are anything but clueless > system administrators).

THe problem is not the way this list is administered. The problem is the way rootsweb servers are administered. Doing volunteer work does not prevent to be professionnal. The choices made for Rootsweb server (which seems to be refusing mail when reverse DNS lookup of the originating server is not operational) are very well known to be inappropriate choices, for lots of reasons, for instance by all people who have (voluntarily) participated in setting up Internet infrastructure in Africa, or some other so-called "merging" countries (just try to do reverse DNS lookups with Centrafrica for instance...). The current rootsweb server violates at least one RFC: RFC 2821 ("3.6 Domains" and moreover "4.1.4 Order of Commands" which is very clear). My own server does not.
It's time to stop this thread. It has nothing to do with the CFT-WIN Mailing List. If anyone has problems with the servers at Rootsweb, contact me PERSONALLY and do not burden the other subscribers of the List with things they don't need. Thank you, SgtGeorge George W. Okay, then since it has nothing to do with this list and certainly is just uninteresting techno-babble that has nothing to do with the rest of us list members, could you please take this discussion off-list and deal directly with whomever will likely be able to resolve your problem. I think most of us have heard more about this issue now than is tolerable considering only you are affected. Thank you for your consideration of the rest of us by doing so. Good luck in your quest. Rosemary, Isn't that EXACTLY what I said in my post? Just for anyone's information, it is the duty and privilege of the manager of a Mailing List to tell anyone to "take a discussion off-list". Your comment/complaint should have been addressed to me personally, not to the List. Regards, George W.
