    3. Ira Sorry to persist with this .. maybe someone else has some ideas. I have the program on a laptop and the edit function is fine but not on my pc, which would suggest it is not a Cumberland prob. I was also having a problem with the icon names in Cumberland being cut off but have solved that by changing the font size on windows .. but the edit function is still a problem .. it gets to the end of the first line and makes the alarm bell noise. Even with long names it only displays the first line and then the cursor disappears !.. I have re-installed, rebuilt etc .. no joy .. I do not know if it is related but only half the ancestral tree shows up in the 6 generation section. Could be something to do with font size ?? It is not major .. just annoying .... would appreciate any ideas. Many thanks Hugo | >| In the "Place" Editor .. if the place name is more than 51 spaces long ie. | >| the width of the box, it stops. 3. I think the problem relates to the specific entry field that Hugo is using. When entering at the event level a new place name directly in the Edit Event Place field, it provides a scrolling text entry box that certainly can handle a lot of characters, I guess the 250 Ira has stated. However, if an entry is made through the Add place name button on the Select Place Name screen called by the Place button on the Edit Event screen, this is a fixed two line entry field. Depending on the combination of upper and lower case characters, a user will be only able to enter about 100 characters. The same result happens when called from the Edit Place Name screen called from the main drop down menu Place name Editor (or Ctrl+P shortcut). I know that internally the database is set to hold a max of 250 characters. But yes, I now see that because the vertical scroll bars on the right are not there it won't let you go beyond two lines. Perhaps in Hugo's case if he is using all CAPS this makes for the 51 characters max he can enter. I will have to fix the Place Name Editor and adding a scroll bar should help this out. Thansk for the tip on this. Ira ------------------------------------------------ Mr. Ira J.
