For what it's worth, I use Pocket Genealogist as a companion product on my Pocket PC. I simply create a GEDCOM export from CFT-Win and import into my Ipaq, thus giving me a handy, portable copy of my database. Although I said I was not interested, you do have my curiosity a bit. How much text can you really view on the Pocket PC? I would think what you can see is somewhat limited. And data entry would seem quite difficult, so maybe you use it only for reference and bring materials home to enter into the database on your main computer? What about "disk" space. Could a large program like CFT even fit on the Pocket PC. I wonder how much altering a program would require. As you can see I have not even looked into this idea at all. I'd like to be able to print out Family Charts for our next reunion, such that the data I know is shown, and that data that I don't know (such as a birthdate or burial place) is blank. Then the attendees can review it and fill in the blanks. Has anyone been able to do this with CFT? My printed Family Charts show only the events that I have entered, and do not leave room (labeled or otherwise) for the missing information. Bruce.
Does anyone have a good way to mark an individual as "sensitive"? For example, a child is born out of wedlock and given up for adoption. The parents subsequently marry and have other children. The family would like to keep the first birth a private matter, and not published in any form. Is there a good way to suppress this data in the printed reports? I know I can mark all of the first child's events, including birth, as sensitive. But the existence of the child is not hidden. Bruce.
Speaking as a dedicated PALM user I tried many different programs but eventually settled on GEDWISE. The PC desktop neatly converts an exported GEDCOM file to a very handy and useable (read-only) database. Notes can be created for different entries.
