This is how I do this, but there may be a more correct way. You need an extra "No-Spouse Marriage". If you have already attached husband(s), add an extra one without bothering about a name, and select this marriage. Add the child born before the first real marriage and then delete the false husband. You then have a child attached to a No-Spouse Marriage rather than either of the other husbands.
