    1. Indexing in RTF

    3. G'day Ira, I am really enjoying working with your RTF Books facility now that I have AT LAST started to write the family history. As my families are both Scots there is an unfortunate outcome from the "Scottish Naming Tradition" in that I have multiple entries for the same name. In the worst cases 15 John GRACIEs, 10 Thomas GRACIES and 7 William GRACIEs. When I show the special symbols I see the index entry thus (spaces not shown): 5. William GRACIE {xe."GRACIE, William"} William was born May 25, 1804 at Carronbridge, Morton, Dumfries, SCT. 15 William was christened May 27, 1804 at Carronbridge, Morton, Dumfries, SCT. 24, 15 William lived between 1828 and 1830 at St Domingo Lane, Liverpool, LANCS, ENG. 25 When I produce my INDEX there is no way of identifying which particular person I need to look-up. As it appears that the "index entries" are generated from the "Individual" would it be possible to somehow incorporate the birth YEAR into the entry so it reads " {xe."GRACIE, William (1804)"}. The advantage for look-ups is obvious. I am currently doing this manually and the resulting Index looks like: BENNY, Elizabeth 3 CALDER, Agnes (1767) 3 CALDER, David (1803) 3 CALDER, David (1808) 3 CALDER, George (1762) 3 CALDER, George (1800) 3 CALDER, Isobel (1793) 3 CALDER, James (1805) 3 CALDER, Jannet (1740) 2 CALDER, John (1737) 2 CALDER, John (1791) 3 CALDER, Margaret (1744) 2 CALDER, Thomas (1716) 2 CALDER, Thomas (1770) 3 CALDER, Thomas (1796) 3 CALDER, William (1742) 2, 3 CALDER, William (1764) 3 CALDER, William (1789) 3 CALDERS, The Early 1 PATRICK, Agnes (1772) 3 SOMERVILLE, Margaret (1716) 2 Is this possible or too much fiddling around? As always, thanks for the CFT application. Cheers..... Mike CALDER http://members.optusnet.com.au/mikecalder/ Researching: CALDER, DIXON, TUSON, GRACIE D&GFHS #2979
