    1. [CFTW] Problem with "Rebuild Indexes"

    3. Ira I've been having problems when importing GEDCOM's - every time I do this, I seem to loose one marriage event. I think I've now tracked down what's happening, & it's the Rebuild Indexes which is causing the problem, and not the actual import itself. The problem can be reproduced as follows: 1) Start with a brand-new, empty, database. 2) Add three individuals & two marriages so that the "Story" reads: 1. A A A and B B were married at Boston. A and C C were married at New York. 3) Rebuild the indexes (uncheck all the boxes). The story now reads: 1. A A A and B B were married at Boston. A and C C were married. 4) Rebuild the indexes a second time (uncheck all the boxes). The story now reads: 1. A A A and B B were married. A and C C were married. 5) Looking at the three individuals confirms that both marriages have disappeared. I'm using Windows 98SE & CFT-WIN Version 3.14. Regards -- Les

    3. I have found the cause of this problem - which is related to another report from Bill LaBarge. AND I even wonder if this might be related to the slowdown reported by Erik Helmer Nielsen. But the strange thing is that I think this bug has always been there. It was related to what could be called old legacy code which is not exactly appropriate for the newer upgrades made to Clarion programming language. I have Zipped CFT.EXE and posted it on my web site but you can really only start the download by clicking on the link below or pasting to the URL and then ovewrite the old CFT.EXE in the Cumberland Family Tree folder. www.cf-software.com/CFT314c.zip I especially would like to hear whether the changes I made help Erik out with his problem. The details reported below by Les allowed me to pinpoint that problem rather quickly. Thanks, Ira ------------------------------------------------ Mr. Ira J. It worked !!! My database of 15000 persons is now exported to Gedcom in less than 4 minutes. !!! I am so releived, that this annoying problem is solved. I am just a bit curious. Can Ira tell a bit more about the cause of this strange problem ? How can it be that I seem to be the only victim? Why is the size of new CFT.EXE so much smaller than the old one (2885K against 4012k) ? Erik

    3. Ira may have solved more than just a couple of problems with the new cft.exe overwrite. I have always been bothered by a delay of a second or two between the time I type a name in the SEARCH slot and the time the letters actually appear on the screen, i.e., letters often appear just a second or two AFTER I type them. This no longer seems to be a problem. Praise the Ira! In fact, the whole program seems to run with a great deal more enthusiasm. (Of course all this may simply be my reward for being such a good boy the last few days. Who knows?) Anyhow: thanks, Ira. I needed that. walt hogdu26@knology.net ----- Original Message ----- From: "Erik Helmer Nielsen" <ehelmer@boerne.dk> To: <CFT-WIN-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, February 27, 2004 6:46 AM Subject: Re: [CFTW] CFT Ver 3.14 and Windows XP > Thu, 26 Feb 2004 13:04:56 -0600, Ira wrote > > >I have found the cause of this problem - which is related to another report > >from Bill LaBarge. 3. I am unsure if the following errors are new to the "lighter" version of CFTW.exe or were there before and I hadn't noticed. 1. If I open the Place or Misc Editor I get the following message "STOP. Word not found in Language file. Word code 350932" Abort or Ignore. Ignore allows the editor to be opened. 2. When ANY Editor is opened, I make a selection and click on List, I get the same message but with Word code 350933. 3. When I select List in ANY Editor the Icons at the top of the window indicate "Close", "Jump to Individual Highlighted", and "Print". However the captions show "Close", "Close", and "Print". Any clues on point 1 and 2. Point 3 is a minor fix for Ira.
