    3. Just another thought: If you have an alternate name you can also input: George R. /Blough ook Blauch/. The benefit is that both names (Blough and Blauch) show up seperately in the name search window. This is handy if the alternate name is quite different. The draw-back is that also the name 'ook' shows up in the name search window and i do not know what it does to the gedcom standard. You can even use multiple name/ook's combinations! I use the word 'ook' because it is Dutch for 'also' and i do not know anybody with that surname. Any word (or single character) will do as long as it is not one of the 'exempt surnames' (in database configuration options¦names). Maybe this is even an idea for Ira to implement in an update of Cumberland. Designate a special character for using alternate names (for instance '&') and exclude this character as name in amongst other, the name search function. (I now this is not the answer to the original question. Its more an response to what Ira wrote.) regards Jos Weijenberg ------------------------------------------------- zie header voor mijn emailadres ------------------------------------------------- ----- Original Message ----- From: "Ira J Lund" <ira.lund@cf-software.com> To: <CFT-WIN-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, October 20, 2004 2:13 PM Subject: Re: [CFTW] Name spellings > No other special tricks. > > I sometimes write alternates in parenthesis: George R. /Blough (Blauch)/ > But I do not think there is any standard. > > Ira > ------------------------------------------------ > Mr. Ira J.
