    1. [CFTW] RE: Eudora Pro Email Program

    3. Sorry George, but I have to disagree with you. I have used MS Outlook since 97 and eventually changed to Eudora only because of the increasing risk through security breaches that is inherent in Outlook and Outlook Express. I have now ued Eudora 5.0 since it first came out about 12 months ago but have reluctantly changed back to MS Outlook 98 simply because of bugs and freezes that occurred with Eudora. It only goes to prove that what is ideal for some isn't automatically ideal for others. I run Win ME (all bells and whistles but still very flaky) on a PentIII 733mHz with 128Mb ram and 20Gb hard disk, so it's not a hardware problem. Another factor to consider is that as Outlook and Outlook Express is by far the most popular email client software used, it is inevitable that it would be targeted by virus creators. Every setup is different from hardware to Windows to other installed programs, so it is no wonder that we all have different experiences. In regards to CFTW, I have to praise Ira for his consistent efforts to improve his product which has never caused me any problems at all. Another factor to consider is that as > Outlook and Outlook Express is by far the most popular email client software > used, it is inevitable that it would be targeted by virus creators. They are targeted because they are targetable...:-) They have default settings which allow them to execute *code* contained inside email messages (especially WSH code which is activated by default on Win98 and WinME as part of the bells and whistles you mentioned earlier) Moreover, these silly programs, along with some other (Lotus Notes comes to my mind) introduced the "new way" of quoting text by inserting the cited text *after* replies. All mailing lists now suffer of this new quoting style which incredibly lowers their signal/ratio noise (as no-one bothers about the reduction of quoted text) and gives strange discussions (in real life, I never answer to people *before* they speak, do you?). Another "interesting" feature of these programs is their nice ability to break all established standards (such as "Re: " preposition in subjects in internatinal versions). Besides this, Eudora has always been there (far before the invention of the Internet by Mr Gates....:-)) and has always tried to be compliant with written standards (RFC) or Internet etiquette.... Just make your choice (mine is done for years now, see headers...:-)).
