Hi, Harvey-- Thanks a lot for writing, Harvey. My computer came with 16MB of memory, I installed an additional 32MB. That gave me a total of 48 MB, the maximum amount I can get out of this machine without some extensive alterations, which I don't fully understand. At any rate, I was told that any major changes in my computer would cost more than the computer is worth; that it would be a lot cheaper in the long run to just buy a new machine. Considering the rapid innovations in these things, that makes sense to me. What do you think? At any rate, thanks for writing and I appreciate your help very much. walt [email protected] ----- Original Message ----- From: "Harvey Nimmo" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Tuesday, March 13, 2001 1:37 PM Subject: AW: [CFTW] Crashes > Dear Walter, > > Perhaps you should consider adding RAM to your PC to improve its stability. > Win95 seems to be a bit untidy with its memory management so that if you > have only say, 32MB, conflicts may occur which could lead to crashes. Hello again Walt, I tend to think that buying a new computer is like capitulation...it is really a last resort! I'm a bit surprised that 48MB is the limit on your machine. I had 32MB originally and would have said that 32MB is not enough...not sure what to expect from 48MB. If you have 3 slots with a 16MB card in each then it should be possible to replace one or more of them with a 64MB card. (Nowadays one can buy a single card with 64MB, depends on the type of RAM your machine can handle). How many slots does your machine have?
