Hi, Harvey and Others-- Sorry I am so late in responding to questions concerning adding memory to my Compaq 4508. There have been a lot of thunderstorms around here. But this is what I found on my machine from a Compaq technician: "The system board includes 16-MB of SDRAM soldered down on the system board and one DIMM gold contact socket for memory expansion. This socket may be populated with 4-, 8-, 16-, or 32-MB industry standard DIMMs only. Memory may be upgraded with one DIMM. Up to 32 MB may be added to the base configuration by installing one 32-MB DIMMs, increasing the maximum system memory to 48 MB. Either parity or nonparity DIMMs may be used, but parity checking will not be enabled by the memory controller. DIMMs with gold contacts are required to prevent long-term problems. Walt it really is time to be replacing your machine. Need to get something that is less restrictive. Stay away from Compaq and HP. They are making there machines more and more proprietary. This is what got Apple or Mac in trouble in the first place.
