    2. The combination of old machine (P-120) and some photos being large (300 dpi *.tif from 6"x8" and the like) was too much for my patience. Some individuals took several minutes to load simply when changing from an individual to spouse in the relationship view. I dealt to it by removing all photo links. 3. I also have a P 120 and the photos load just fine. No delay at all. I am running Windows 98 2nd edition with all the updates available from misrosoft, including the new direct X and other graphics patches. Maybe others with slow loading photos should try downloading these updates. First because the development tools for DirectX are certainly not free (hey, this is *Microsoft* product...:-)), and also because this is absolutely unuseful except for making bloatware. So, I don't think that patching and re-patchging the operating system will make it faster for photos loading. You will only increase your chances of getting the system unstable...as usual when some patch originating from Redmond, WA goes on your hard disk...:-) But (for the original contributor) you're on your own... Try to patch, patch and re-patch....and cross your fingers at each reboot, of course!

If DirectX is something I would have to know about and integrate into my program then the anser is no, I don't use it. My programming language has it's own graphic commands and I have no idea how it does it. I simply tell it where I want to display a picture and the file name of the image.
