    3. Dear Users, Why are we all discussing Walters hardware problem, while this mailbox should be used for service and suggestions regarding CFTW -program so no time is spilled on not relevant problems. Walters should be helped by his hardware-dealer. I'am also amazed by the discussion and panic around the possible virus in the upgrade of CFTW. I trust that Ira will check his software for viruses, although we are aware of the still growing amount of new viruses, which are not detected. There is no reason for panic, first analyse this problem thoroughly. I 'am considering unsubscribing when our mail-box is not used for it's purpose. Maybe your insurance company would pay for a general overhaul or a new machine? 2) in my control panel, add/remove properties, my CFTW Ver 2.51 is listed as "Cumberland Family Tree (32-bit)". Have you tried to reinstall from scratch? Remember to take backup copy of your database file. Good luck Jens E. 2. CFT-WIN Listowner
    3. Rik, excuse me, but I am the Listowner for this Mailing List and I really think it is up to me to decide when an off-topic thread has gone far enough. Yes, it IS better when all posts to a List stick to the subject of the List, but every once in a while, when things are kind of slow, I have been lax about off-topic posts. I don't mind a question now and the, and maybe even a few replies. But, if it becomes too wide-ranging I usually do step in and ask that the thread be moved to the proper List. As to Walter's hardware problem, it had to do specifically with operation of CFTW. Now, that certainly seems to me to be ON-TOPIC. Just as genealogy is not made up solely of names, dates, and places, neither is this CFTW Mailing List made up SOLELY of postings having to do with very narrow questions about the CFTW program. If a user is having problem with his/her computer when trying to run CFTW, then THAT is pertinent!!!!! As to the virus problem, IT CONCERNED SOMEONE WHO THOUGHT SHE HAD CONTACTED THE VIRUS FROM IRA'S CFTW PROGRAM!!!!! THAT is definitely on-topic for this List. It concerned everyone who uses CFTW and I felt it absolutely pertinent to allow the thread to play itself out to the satisfaction of all users. No one panicked! A calm discussion occurred. As to your unsubscribing, and I do not say this spitefully or in a mean manner, it is certainly your right to unsubscribe if you don't like what is posted to a Mailing List. Of course all Lists can not be so "pure" that they always stick to the subject as you would define it. The world certainly needs more tolerance, and I think you should have a little more tolerance toward this, or any other, List. Regards, George W.
